Registration is open for econext’s 2026 annual Ideathon, happening September 25-27, 2026 at Memorial University in St. John’s!

Spend a weekend working with students from Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic and Academy Canada to tackle a real clean growth challenge in Newfoundland and Labrador. You’ll collaborate with a team, connect with expert mentors, build your problem-solving skills and compete for cash prizes for the top three teams.

No previous green economy experience is needed — just bring your ideas, curiosity and willingness to collaborate.

Deadline Sept. 9 to apply for bike locker.
Cycling to campus this fall? Looking for a secure sheltered location? Twenty-six bike lockers are available to rent by semester at four locations on the St. John's campus. Students, staff and faculty are eligible to apply, with priority to students. The fee is $25 per semester for students and $35 for staff and faculty. Locks are provided. 🌱 It’s Compost Awareness Week! 🌱

Did you know backyard composting helps cut down on climate-changing emissions while putting valuable carbon back into the soil? That means healthier trees, stronger plants and a greener community. 🌳

The City of St. John’s, in partnership with Memorial University Botanical Garden and MMSB, offers a free backyard composting course—available both in person and online! Learn the basics of composting, reduce household waste and be eligible to purchase a compost bin at a subsidized cost.

Scholarship opportunity - deadline May 1!

2026 SAM Student Scholarship Applications Open!

One pillar of the SAM Environmental Stewardship Award is the Student Scholarship - used to recognize students who have gone above and beyond in their community to support wildlife habitat stewardship, demonstrating an active commitment to conservation in Newfoundland and Labrador through their studies or in their free time.

First awarded in 2015, this award is a $1000 scholarship awarded to a student either from or studying in Newfoundland and Labrador whose interests, activities and post-secondary goals are focused on the conservation of habitat in this province. Students can nominate themselves or be nominated by a teacher, peer, community member, etc.
