Indigenous Student Resource Centre
Formerly the ARO ISRC strives to offer programs and services to create a welcoming community for all Indigenous students.

The Indigenous Student Resource Centre (ISRC) is responsible for providing support services to Indigenous students. The centre also works to advocate and educate the general university population regarding inclusion of our unique Indigenous peoples found within our province. With assistance from the Indigenous Student Success Coordinator, the ISRC is entrusted to assist Indigenous students in adap

ting to an academic and urban environment. ISRC also provides information to potential students on accessing funding through a wide variety of Indigenous groups, scholarships and other potential sources of funding. Indigenous students have access to a student lounge, six computers, photocopier, telephone for local calls, used textbooks and other resources. The common student area is a place for students to relax in a peaceful environment with other Indigenous students who share similar backgrounds.

Hi folks! September is here and our calendar has been finalized. While this means we're back in the academic swing of things, we also have lots of fun and exciting activities planned to brighten up your semester. Indigenous students please take a look and join us where you can. (: All activities will take place at Juniper House unless otherwise indicated.

We will be offering Mid-Week MUNchies for Indigenous students every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., so drop in at Juniper House for some snacks! We usually offer fresh fruit, granola bars and other energy bars, mixed nuts, salty snacks, and some protein options.

We will be closed on Thursday, the 3rd for a staff gathering from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., after which we'll be open as usual until 5 p.m.

We will be closed all day on Monday, the 7th, for Labour Day. New term starts on the Wednesday the 9th and there will be a MUN supports and services fair on the third floor of the UC that day, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Thursday the 10th we will be offering tours of Juniper House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a pizza party! Stop in for a tour or just come by for pizza.

On Friday the 11th we will be hosting a Passions and Plans sharing circle at 11 a.m. and again at 2:00 p.m. Come on by and share your hopes and dreams for the semester! MUCEP applications also open at 5:00 p.m. today.

On Monday the 14th we will have bannock and board games from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday the 16th we will be setting up the trapper's tent from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for our tent gathering on the 18th, weather permitting. If we get rained out we will reschedule to the 17th, same time. Indigenous students, please drop in to help us out with setting up the tent! It's a great opportunity to learn the process if you have not yet had a chance to try, and many hands make short work.

We will be hosting our beading circle on Thursday the 17th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., all ability levels are welcome. We provide beads and supplies and someone will be available to teach you to bead if you don't know how, or troubleshoot any problems you might have.

Our tent gathering will take place on the 18th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event is open to everyone at the university to stop by and learn more about Juniper House, the ISRC, and Indigenous culture here in Newfoundland and Labrador. There will be snacks and refreshments. MUCEP applications also close today at 12:00 p.m.

On Monday the 21st we will be making crafts for Orange Shirt Day from 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m., with an opportunity to come back on Wednesday the 23rd to finish off projects from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Our beading circle will go ahead again on Tuesday the 22nd from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and we will be going blueberry picking from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting. If we get rained out, we will try again at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, the 24th. We will meet at Juniper House.

Wednesday the 23rd there will be a Career and Graduate Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Field House.

On Thursday, the 24th, we will be hosting a Public Service Commission Student Employment Session from 11:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Tuesday, the 29th, we will be offering guided walking tours of Indigenous landmarks on the Memorial University St. John's campus from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., after which we will meet at the Juniper House kitchen for bannock. If you can't make the tour, feel free to stop by for some bannock anyway!

Finally, on Wednesday the 30th we will be closed to recognize Orange Shirt Day.

Call for Abstracts, deadline September 1st, 2026. Relational Research: An Indigenous Health Research Symposium. The Indigenous Health Research Symposium Planning Committee invites abstract submissions for this free, hybrid gathering celebrating Indigenous health research, meaningful dialogue, and shared learning. Guided by relationality, respect, and reciprocity, this public event brings together researchers, students, Elders, community members, and research partners for strength-based, solution-focused knowledge exchange. Health is understood holistically, encompassing physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being for individuals, communities, and the environment. Faculty, staff, students, independent researchers, and community organizations engaged in Indigenous health research are welcome to submit ongoing or recently completed (since 2021) work. While submissions from across Canada are welcome, we especially encourage research connected to Newfoundland and Labrador and connected Indigenous territories. Presentations may take many forms—oral, poster, virtual poster, storytelling, performance, screening, or other creative and community based formats—delivered in person at Grenfell Campus, virtually, or pre-recorded. Juniper House calendar for August 2026 is up! All our events and services are available to Indigenous students at Memorial. Drop in on Wednesdays for some mid-week MUNchies (snacks!). Stop by August 4th for our beading circle 2-4pm, or craft circle 1:30-3:30pm on the 11th. Beginning Monday, August 10th, we will be offering a morning smudge and/or lighting the kullik for the duration of exam week, as needed. We'll be offering frybread on the 18th, so come on in and partake. Friday, August 28th, stop in to learn to administer Narcan to help prevent opioid poisonings. Have questions? Hi folks! We will be having our beading circle here at Juniper House on Thursday, July 9th, 1:30pm-4:00pm. The circle is open to all Indigenous students at Memorial University and all skill levels are welcome. Unlike a beading workshop, where the goal is to teach participants how to bead, the purpose of the beading circle is simply to gather and bead together. Bring your own project, or avail of our supplies. We will have beads and some designs on hand to get you started if desired.

There will be an experienced beader present to help troubleshoot projects and to teach anyone who does not yet know how to bead if needed.
