Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Hardwick for receiving the Faculty of Arts Research and Scholarship Mentorship Award!

Jen is passionate about education, and has spent the last 15 years teaching, creating, organizing, and facilitating with post-secondary institutions, arts organizations, non-profits, and community groups. She currently teaches in both the English Department and Policy Studies program at KPU, and she has been faculty participant in the Including All Citizens Pathway since 2019.

The Faculty of Arts Research and Scholarship Mentorship Award is conferred annually to recognize research and scholarly pursuits that enrich the quality of the educational experience for students in the Faculty of Arts by creating meaningful and rewarding opportunities for them to engage in and learn about research and scholarship through their involvement in a scholarly undertaking.

Yesterday, at the Arts Annual General Meeting, we had the pleasure of recognizing Dr. Shereen Hassan (Criminology Professor) and Dr. Yanfeng Qu (LANC Professor) for their outstanding service and contributions to the Faculty of Arts.

Presented annually, the Dean of Arts Service Award recognizes faculty members who go above and beyond in their service to the Faculty and our Arts community.

PSYC 2350: Psychopathology
This course invites students to critically examine historical and modern perspectives of psychological disorders. They investigate the complexities of diagnosing and classifying a range of disorders, from anxiety and mood disorders to personality and psychotic disorders. Through engaging lectures, multimedia resources, interactive group discussions, and in-depth case study analyses, students uncover the nuances of how these disorders are classified and understood. Prerequisites: PSYC 1100 and 1200

This course explores the intricate interactions between consumer decision-making and the strategies used to influence it from a psychological perspective. Students learn about cutting-edge research methods and discover how cognitive, social, and personal factors shape buying behavior. The course also examines how innovative marketing strategies can sway consumer choices and impact market trends. Students learn through a blend of interactive lectures, hands-on experiential learning exercises, and in-depth case studies. Prerequisites: 45 credits from courses at the 1100 level or higher, including PSYC 2330 and PSYC 2385

PSYC 4650: Psychology of Genocide
Students will apply theories from social and personality psychology to the understanding of the causes, correlates, and consequences of genocide and mass killing. They will think critically about the complex and multi-factorial relationships found in the real world. Students will explore the psychology of different groups of people associated with genocide, including perpetrators, bystanders, rescuers, and survivors. Students will also learn about the extent to which the discipline of psychology itself has been shaped by various episodes of genocide and other mass killing. Prerequisites: 45 credits from courses at the 1100 level or higher, including PSYC 2300, 2330 and one of the following: CRIM 1208, PSYC 2400 or SOCI 2260.

Students will study major philosophical texts from the modern period, beginning from the time of Descartes. They will apply methods of philosophical analysis to these texts in the exploration of epistemological, metaphysical, ethical and social-political questions. Students will examine major normative ethical theories.
