At the end of the upcoming soccer season, Ness Timmons will retire, concluding a remarkable 31-year tenure as Head Coach and one of the most successful coaching careers in Canadian university sport.

Since taking the helm of the program in the mid-1990s, Timmons built one of Canada’s premier university soccer programs. Under his leadership, the CAPERS captured a record 14 AUS championships, won the program’s first U SPORTS national championship in 2007, and earned national silver and bronze medals in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Timmons was named AUS Coach of the Year seven times and U SPORTS Coach of the Year three times.

While things will certainly not be the same, CBU is proud that Ness leaves behind one of the most accomplished coaching legacies in Canadian university sport, with an impact measured not only in championships, but in the lives of the student-athletes, colleagues and community members he has influenced throughout his career.

It’s often said that the best way to teach a child about courage is to lead by example. For Ricky McCarthy, CBU’s Development Officer of Major Gifts and Donor Relations, setting that example meant stepping far outside of his comfort zone and straight onto the dance floor.

This October, he will be competing in Dancing with the Stars for Hospice, an initiative that pairs community members with professional dancers who compete and perform to raise money for a worthy cause and while vying for the People’s Choice Award.
