President Dr. Gillian Siddall and Orillia Campus Principal Dr. Linda Rodenburg had the pleasure of welcoming our newest international students during International Welcome Day in both Thunder Bay and Orillia.

From meeting new friends and exploring campus to connecting with the people and services here to support them, it was a great day to help our newest Thunderwolves feel at home–and the kick-off to an exciting orientation week here at Lakehead!

We’re so excited to celebrate Juan Gomez Martinez, an inbound exchange student from Mexico, whose film *“What’s the Point?”* tied as a winner of the **Audience Choice Award** in the Exhibition category at the **Media Art Showcase 2026** 🎉

Juan’s work stood out, connected with audiences, and brought his unique creative perspective to the showcase. We couldn’t be prouder to see one of our students representing their creativity and talent on this stage!

Today, and made history! After months of planning and construction, we've officially opened the doors to the Barrie STEM Hub — the first university campus in the City of Barrie.

Lakehead's presence in the city is a transformative investment in talent, education, and economic growth. We are opening the door to new opportunities for students, new possibilities for research and innovation, and new partnerships for our community.

Some places become part of history, and Thunder Bay is one of them.

As the place where Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope came to an end, our city carries a legacy of courage, resilience, and hope that continues to inspire people across Canada and around the world.

At Lakehead University, we’re proud to call Thunder Bay home and to be part of a community that honours Terry’s vision of making a difference. This Terry Fox Run season, we invite our students, alumni, staff, and future Thunderwolves to come together to celebrate a legacy that reminds us that every step matters.

Here’s to hope, community, and continuing the journey Terry started.
