Last week, we held our first iSkills workshop of the Summer term: “Introduction to Exhibition Installation: 2D”! 🖼️

Micah Donovan, Exhibition and Project Coordinator at , led students in a hands-on introduction to physically installing two-dimensional works in museums and galleries. The group carried out a mock installation on the 5th floor of the Bissell Building, practising skills like measuring, levelling, mounting, and object handling. Welcome to the Summer semester! 🌞 We are excited to share that our writing, technical skills, and research tutors are available all summer long. iSchool students can book free, online, one-on-one sessions with Ciara, Paula, Aline, or Julia.

All of our tutors are iSchool PhD students, so they know your professors and fields of study. The tutors can help you with more than just course assignments; they are here to support you with any ongoing projects (think theses, grant proposals, cover letters...) and with your academic and scholarly development in general!

As we wrap up the academic year, we wanted to thank you for your participation in Learning Hub programming… and share some stats we are proud of! 📊

Over the 2025-26 academic year, we held 81 iSkills workshops and, for the first time, two full-weekend bootcamps for incoming students. We drew on the expertise of 54 workshop instructors, and we accumulated more than 1800 registrations, including both students and alumni. On average, feedback survey respondents rated iSkills workshops at 9/10, in terms of how likely they would be recommend them to a classmate or colleague.

Our 6 Writing, Research, and Technical Skills Tutors held over 300 one-on-one meetings with students this year across all iSchool programs, including both assignment help and general academic support.

The Learning Hub will remain active this Summer! Stay tuned for an announcement about tutoring services and some in-person and online iSkills workshops. There is lots more to come! 🌞

To help you tackle your final projects and exams, the Learning Hub is hosting a second session of “End of Term 911: Academic Support for Finals Season”! 🚨

Join us on Zoom on Wednesday, April 8, any time between 4pm-7pm. You can work and study in silence in the company of fellow students (a.k.a accountability buddies), or join a breakout room for 1-on-1 support from our Writing and Tech tutors. They will be ready to help you with final assignments and studying, no matter which stage you’re at: from brainstorming, to research tips, to troubleshooting, to refining, editing, and citations. 👩‍💻

We know the end of term can feel overwhelming. To help, the Learning Hub is hosting “End of Term 911: Academic Support for Finals Season”! 🆘🚑

On Sunday, March 29, come to the Student Commons (Bissell Building 4th floor) between 12pm-6pm. Writing and Tech tutors will be stationed there with coffee, tea, and snacks! They will be ready to help you with final assignments and studying, no matter which stage you’re at: from brainstorming, to research tips, to troubleshooting, to refining, editing, and citations.

Come work alongside your fellow students (a.k.a accountability buddies) while the tutors circulate to help you with any problems that come up. Get all your work done now before the long weekend—Future You will thank you! ☕️🧑‍💻

📸 We are excited to share some photos from one of our great iSkills workshops this semester: “Information on the Air: Software Defined Radio”!

Brian Sutherland, PhD, Lecturer in Design and Sustainability, led students in this exploration of how low-cost, open-source hardware and free software tools can be used to manifest Software Defined Radio (SDR): a way for computers to send and receive information to/from any device which communicates over radio frequency bands. 📡

📸 Check out these great photos from one our iSkills workshops earlier this semester: “Exhibition Installation 101”! Thank you to Micah Donovan, Exhibition and Project Coordinator at , for leading students in this excellent, hands-on introduction to physically installing exhibitions in museums, galleries, and related sites. The workshop group carried out an actual exhibition installation on the 5th floor of the Bissell Building——and a deinstallation, all in the same afternoon! There are still a few iSkills workshops left this semester! Next week we have “Designing Accessible Word and PowerPoint Files on Mac,” instructed by Joanna Lau, Educational Developer at the Faculty of Information.

Participants will learn practical techniques to make their files more accessible and easier to navigate. The session will cover key topics like heading styles, alternative text for images, slide reading order, and how to use Microsoft’s accessibility checker. The workshop is a great starting point, whether you’re new to accessibility or looking for a refresher. 🧑‍💻

This is an online workshop, open to both current students and alumni, taking place on Tuesday, March 10. Spots are limited, so reserve yours today!
