What will your legacy support?

A&S alum Katrina Florendo credits the scholarships she received at U of T with opening doors for her and supporting her path forward. After graduating, Katrina decided to pay that kindness forward and become a donor, leaving a legacy gift in her estate planning.

“It was the only logical thing to do. About 85 per cent of my degree was paid for by funding. I wouldn't be where I am today without that help.”

Sue White’s inspiring planned gift to the School of the Environment is a powerful reminder of how generosity can create both impact and legacy. Made in honour of her late husband, Professor Rodney White — a founding figure of the school — the gift supports students like Lita Wanjiru Ngure of University College, a Jackman Humanities Institute Undergraduate Fellow whose work bridges environmental studies and global issues.

“Winning this scholarship enabled me to branch out into research I genuinely cared about,” says Ngure, an undergraduate research assistant with the International Centre for Tax and Development, which aims to improve tax policy and administration in lower-income countries through collaborative research. “I was learning about perspectives of Kenya I’d never heard of — and I grew up there.”
