Celebrating five years of alumni connection, mentorship and Vic U pride!

Alumni mentors and mentees—past and present—gathered last week in the Goldring Student Centre to mark the five-year anniversary of the Victoria Alumni Mentorship Program.

Launched in 2021 as a small pilot, the program has grown into a thriving community of more than 300 Victoria College alumni who have taken part in formal mentorships and informational conversations. Over the past five years, participants have shared career guidance, lived experience and meaningful connections that continue to strengthen the Vic alumni network.

The celebration brought together members of this community to reflect on the program’s growth and recognize the collective effort behind its success. Guests reconnected with fellow alumni, shared stories and celebrated the impact of five years of mentorship at Vic.

Registration is now open for the 10th annual Campus (Re)Conciliations: Indigenous Issues in Higher Education Conference on June 8 at Victoria University.

Held during National Indigenous History Month, the conference brings together scholars, educators, artists, activists, students and community members for a day of reflection and discussion.

The program includes keynote talks, a student panel, workshops, shared meals and time in the Indigenous Healing Garden. Participants can attend for the full day or part of the day.

One of Victoria University’s most celebrated alumna, Margaret Atwood Vic 6T1, returned home to yesterday, bringing together an extraordinary evening of literature, culture and global recognition. ✨

His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain was at Vic U to present Atwood with the Joan Margarit International Poetry Award, recognizing her extraordinary contribution to poetry and literary exchange. The room was filled with luminaries from the worlds of arts, culture, science and public life, all gathered to celebrate the global reach of Atwood’s work and its power to connect people across borders and generations.

At Vic U, we often say we shape our students, but just as importantly, they shape us. Margaret Atwood’s presence is woven into the fabric of our campus life, from our classrooms and libraries to the conversations and ideas that continue to grow here every day.

Our Emmanuel College graduates marked both an ending and a beginning last week as they completed years of theological study and prepared to move into vocations of service and care.

Surrounded by family, friends, staff and faculty, they gathered to celebrate a shared journey shaped by interfaith dialogue, rigorous study and a commitment to serving others. Many now step forward as counsellors, chaplains, pastors, psychotherapists and spiritual caregivers, carrying their learning into communities and contexts where it will guide their work.
