A year ago, Tanya (.estheliz) was preparing to start her journey in OCAD U’s Creative Writing program. After a year of workshops, creative projects, and exploring new perspectives, we checked back in to hear about the experience and how her writing has evolved along the way.

For Tanya, first year became a chance to grow more confident in her writing while being surrounded by people with completely different styles, ideas, and approaches to storytelling.

One project that stood out was creating a chapbook – a collection of poetry, prose, and other writing that brought together pieces she worked on throughout the year.
Looking ahead, Tanya is excited to dive deeper into the genres she loves most, especially fantasy writing, while continuing to explore other creative passions like music, film, and poetry.

OCAD U alum Stanzie Tooth's latest installation at The Bentway invites viewers to reconsider the relationship between urban spaces and the natural world. 🌿

In A Persistent Crossing, large-scale images wrap around Bentway Staging Grounds’ scaffolding towers, creating a striking threshold between built and natural environments. Featuring human silhouettes, shifting skies and native Ontario vegetation, the work encourages us to see nature not as separate from city life, but deeply intertwined with it. Congratulations Stanzie! 🎉

If you’re in Toronto this summer, this one’s worth experiencing.

Last year, we met Oliver just before he began his first year in OCAD U’s Experimental Animation program. After a year of learning and experimenting, we caught up with him to see how it all went.

Throughout the year, Oliver explored different animation techniques, experimented with materials, built puppets, and got to dive deeper into the kinds of projects that sparked his interest in animation to begin with.

And now? He’s heading into summer with something new: the skills and techniques to bring animation ideas he’s been holding onto for years to life. We can’t wait to see what Oliver creates next and what new skills and techniques he’ll explore over the next three years.

Last August, Nyssa () was getting ready to start her journey in OCAD U’s Environmental Design program. Fast forward to now and she’s wrapping up her first year! In her first year, Nyssa got to dabble in model making, learning new software and creating work she’s genuinely proud of. Along the way, she found something just as important: a sense of belonging.

For Nyssa, inspiration is built right into everyday life — whether that’s walking to class and passing galleries along the way or being surrounded by a creative community that feels like home.

Enjoy your summer, Nyssa! And we can’t wait to hear what you learn in the next 3 years.
