Jane Norman College is looking for an Office Manager/Bookkeeper.
Reporting to and working directly with the Executive Director, the position supports the entire operation of the organization through duties including:
- Working with our accounting software on fees and payments of our childcare sites, payments and reconciliations to our Family Home Agency, setting up accounts, ordering resources, monitoring and making payments to various vendors. (data entry, facilitating payments, banking)
- Building and maintaining excellent relationships with stakeholders (timely and collaborative approach, understanding multiple needs and priorities)
- Working with compliance and reporting under various legislation (comprehension of regulatory, and reporting)
- Troubleshooting technical issues on Microsoft Office and Google (excellent technical skills and ability to help other staff learn)
- Working across centres/groups to review or re-work reporting systems/processes, clarify expectations, and generally enhance the organization’s ability to support staff (ability to understand multiple childcare centre pressures and ability to carry out multiple assignments with various deadlines)
- Supporting the organization in winding up (2026-2027) its post secondary programming (dealing with administrative tasks related to small groups of students and the accompanying regulatory requirements and systems)
The role necessitates above average skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Google Sheets and familiarity with basic bookkeeping/data entry. Some travel within Truro/Bible Hill required. The role is full-time (35 hours per week) and based at Jane Norman College in Truro.
The successful candidate will:
- Have a diploma or degree in a business and/or have a combined education and years of experience (3+ preferable) that can be proven to meet expectations
- Have experience (1 years+ preferable) in a non-profit setting working with provincial regulations
- Have above average communication skills (written and oral)
- Be a motivated, reliable, self-starter
- Be able to demonstrate knowledge of Excel/Sheet, Word/Docs, accounting software, and general office systems
- Have clean Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (we are adjacent to licensed childcare)
Previous experience as a bookkeeper, office manager, or administrative professional in a small, busy office is an asset.
Wages will be commensurate with education and experience. Total compensation will include paid personal time, paid vacation, medical/dental benefits.
