🏗️ Today, VCC welcomed the Province of B.C. for an important announcement expanding access to skilled-trades training. Through the Province’s Look West strategy, VCC will receive 224 new skilled-trades training seats in 2026-27, bringing the total number of trades training seats at VCC to more than 1,770 this year.

These additional seats will create more opportunities to train for in-demand careers in areas including automotive service, construction electrical, heavy mechanical trades, and refrigeration and air conditioning.

We are grateful to Minister Jennifer Whiteside and Parliamentary Secretary Sunita Dhir for their continued support of skilled-trades education and investment in B.C.’s workforce. Following the announcement, government representatives toured VCC’s automotive and heavy-duty departments, seeing firsthand how hands-on, industry-focused training prepares students for careers in the trades.

B.C. is facing a growing demand for skilled tradespeople, with billions of dollars in major projects planned across the province.

Entrance awards of $500 to $2,000 are available to new students entering select programs in January, May or September 2027. Once you accept your offer of admission, you will automatically receive the tuition award while funding is available.

Join us Sept. 23 at the Fairmont Pacific Rim for the 17th Annual Chinese Restaurant Awards, an evening celebrating the chefs, restaurateurs, and restaurants shaping Chinese dining across North America.

This year’s event will support VCC’s Asian Culinary Arts program, with proceeds from public ticket sales helping students gain the skills, training, and opportunities to build their culinary careers.

🌱 Looking to build skills in sustainable building practices? Vancouver Community College is making training more accessible with a tuition discount for the Sustainable Buildings course.

Starting Sept. 14, this 10-week online course explores energy efficiency, retrofitting, sustainability standards and strategies to reduce energy use. With funding from the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program, tuition is less than $90, including fees.

🚗 CBC News recently featured Vancouver Community College in a story exploring the growing need for skilled technicians as electric vehicles become more common.

At VCC, we are preparing students and apprentices for the future of automotive service through hands-on training with EVs and hybrid vehicles. We are also expanding our clean energy training to support growing demand for professionals working with EV charging infrastructure and emerging technologies.
