Associate of Arts Degree in Indigenous Studies at NEC

NEC invites learners from across Canada to begin their journey in Indigenous Studies.

Our Associate of Arts Degree in Indigenous Studies is designed to honour and respect the self-determination of Indigenous Peoples through a curriculum rooted in Indigenous worldviews. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to Indigenous Studies and the Prevention of Genocide, emphasizing knowledge, discovery, and learning through land, ceremony, arts, and relationships.

Through a flexible asynchronous delivery model, out-of-province learners can join fellow students from across Turtle Island in a transformative journey of cultural and academic growth while studying from the comfort of their own homes.

Join us at NEC and be part of a learning community grounded in culture, connection, and Indigenous knowledge.

Today, we raise our hands in gratitude to all the Elders from our community who joined us for Elders Day at Native Education College. Your presence filled our halls with warmth, laughter, teachings, and connection.

A special thank you to our Elders-in-Residence for the invaluable knowledge, wisdom, and guidance you continue to share with our learners, staff, and community every day. Your teachings strengthen our paths, uplift our spirits, and remind us of the importance of culture, language, and intergenerational connection.

From the hand pampering station, movie space, bingo, tea room, music, delicious food, and potted plants room, every corner of the day was created with love, care, and appreciation. It was beautiful to witness so many smiles, stories, songs, and heartfelt moments shared together.

Thank you to our incredible staff for all the thoughtful gestures that made the day so meaningful, and to President Tammy Harkey for her continued leadership, kindness, and support in honouring our Elders and community.

Elders Day was a true celebration of wisdom, resilience, laughter, and love, a reminder that our Elders are the heart of our community. We are deeply grateful for each and every one of you.
