Apply for a unique course for 2026W Term 1: APSC 367 is interdisciplinary, project-based course that will have students from Engineering (any discipline), Political Science, and International Relations work together in mixed teams to tackle real-world humanitarian/development challenges in collaboration with partnering NGOs.
This presents a unique opportunity to use your engineering skills in cross-disciplinary collaboration and to explore your work and your field in a broader sociotechnical context while having a real-world impact, with some of the course projects currently successfully deployed around the world.

APSC 367 satisfies the "Impact of Engineering on Society, Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship" requirement for graduation in engineering for all programs (note that for CIVL students you will need special permission from your department), except for ENVL and ENVE, for which this counts as a technical elective.

Applications will be accepted until July 15th, 2026: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0IdMssOiLOqaA98

A team of UBC CHBE students have won the 2026 Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering Plant and Process Design Competition held in Toronto! Team members are: Jasmine Martinez, Jordan Huang, Basil Rohlfs, Nasrullah Shakil, Gabriel Vela and Justin Woodhall

Jordan, Basil and Justin attended the conference to present their design for a CO2-to-jet-fuel process using a methanol pathway. Their project investigated the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of producing aviation fuel from captured carbon dioxide.

The Plant and Process Design Competition is a prestigious event organized annually as part of the Student Program of the Canadian Chemical Engineering Conference (CSChE).
