From gaining industry insights at Destination Greater Victoria and exploring large-scale event operations at the Victoria Conference Centre-to experiencing world-class hospitality at the Fairmont Empress, Inn at Laurel Point, and Marriott each visit offered our students valuable, real-world perspectives.

This week some of our incredible students rolled up their sleeves to support the Dine Around Opening Night Gala—and what a celebration it was!

Our and undergraduate students wrapped up their three‑day experiential learning adventure in with a powerful and memorable final day. 🌿

Day 3 highlight: 

🧡 We met with Redmond at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, who generously shared personal family stories and cultural teachings. His reflections opened the door to meaningful discussions about the past and present experiences of the Squamish and Lil’wat Peoples, deepening our understanding of place, identity, and the responsibilities we carry as future tourism and hospitality professionals. 

A thoughtful and inspiring conclusion to an unforgettable learning journey.

Our and undergraduate students are halfway through their three‑day experiential learning adventure in ! 🏔️❄️

Day 2 highlights: 

📍 Morning with Tourism Whistler 
We met with Taralyn and Mark for an insightful walk through the Whistler Conference Centre, where we explored the world of destination management and marketing strategies, and what it takes to promote a globally recognized mountain resort. 

❤️ Afternoon at Whistler Community Services Society 
Jackie and Tom shared powerful stories that revealed the often‑unseen flipside of life in a resort town. Their transparency reminded us why as tourism and hospitality professionals we must understand our industry’s impact on local communities — and how we can collaborate to support resilience and shared wellbeing. 

🌙 Evening at Vallea Lumina 
Our day concluded with sound and forest bathing nature walk along the magical pathways of Vallea Lumina on Cougar Mountain. Students reflected on the opportunities and challenges of blending nature and technology to create immersive tourist experiences. 

A full day of learning, empathy, and critical thinking.

This semester, we had the incredible opportunity to embrace project-based learning in collaboration with the amazing team at Juan de Fuca Performing Arts Centre Society.

Students turned theory into practice and showcased the power of experiential learning in the hospitality and tourism industry here in the Westshore.
