A new scoping review has been published in Maturitas, an international journal of midlife health and beyond, by IALH Research Affiliates Justin Brand, Tabitha V. Craig, and Dr. Nicole M. Templeman.
This scoping review assessed reproductive aging in women with premenopausal type 2 diabetes (T2DM). They found that T2DM before 40 years of age is associated with a higher risk of earlier menopause. In addition, there is a link between premenopausal T2DM and reduced oocyte quality and ovarian reserve, which both compromise fertility. The researchers state that future work should be aimed at determining which T2DM features affect female reproductive aging.
This work was conducted as part of IALH's STRIDE (Student Training for Research and Interdisciplinary Development and Experience) interdisciplinary mentorship program.
Congratulations, Justin, Tabitha, and Dr. Templeman! 🎉
