Last week, we welcomed a group of students to Think About Math! (TAM), our three-day workshop designed to fuel an interest in mathematics among girls and gender minorities entering Grade 9.
Students learned how to navigate high school mathematics, discovered careers and opportunities in the field, celebrated the contributions of underrepresented mathematicians and connected with Waterloo alumni who shared their journeys and experiences. Lectures and activities in the workshop helped students gain a broader perspective on how mathematics extends beyond the classroom and connects to our everyday lives.
Thank you to our presenters, alumni, volunteers, faculty, and staff who helped make these three days possible. Most of all, thank you to our students for bringing their curiosity, enthusiasm, and energy to TAM. We look forward to seeing where their mathematical journeys take them.
