Help Students Dress for Success 👔

Laurier Experiential Learning & Career Development is launching the Career Clothing Closet at the Waterloo campus and is seeking donations of gently used professional clothing from faculty and staff.

Building on the success of a similar initiative at Laurier's Brantford campus, the Waterloo Career Clothing Closet will provide Laurier students with free professional attire for interviews, job fairs, placements, networking events, and other career-related opportunities.

By increasing access to professional clothing, the initiative helps reduce financial barriers, build confidence, and promote sustainability through clothing reuse.

🗓️ Donation Period: The pilot program will launch mid-September 2026. Donations are encouraged as of early September to help stock the closet before launch. Donations will continue to be accepted afterwards to maintain inventory.

📍Donation Instructions: Donations can be made Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the front desk on the main level of the Career Development Centre, located at 192 King St. N., Waterloo.

Laurier Faculty of Education researchers prepare teachers to lead in an AI-powered world ⬇️

“We’re unique in teacher education,” says Wilfrid Laurier University Professor Julie Mueller (pictured left). “We’re teaching about AI, we’re teaching with AI, and we’re teaching about how to teach with AI. It can get complicated.”

Mueller and Assistant Professor Keri Ewart (pictured right) noted a gap in existing teacher education around the subject of AI. While there was substantial training in technological tools and individual ethics, the sector lacked a framework to meaningfully integrate AI literacy into teacher education programs.

To address the gap, the duo created the AIME architecture, which helps educators understand how AI systems work, their limitations, biases and ethical risks, and empowers them to teach AI literacy and fluency to students with the same level of care and critical attention.

“AI is not going anywhere,” says Ewart. “At Laurier, we need to stay at the forefront so we can continue to help our students navigate this tricky landscape and think through the use of AI in ethical, adaptive and critical ways.”
