The University of Windsor Faculty of Law congratulates Ronnie Haidar on the successful defence of his PhD dissertation, “Competing Frames in International Law: A Legal Argumentation Analysis of Article 20 of the Convention Against Torture.”

As part of the PhD in Argumentation Studies, Ronnie’s dissertation examines legal argumentation in the context of international law, with a focus on the competing frames used in interpreting Article 20 of the Convention Against Torture.

We are pleased to celebrate this significant academic achievement and Ronnie’s contribution to scholarship at the intersection of legal argumentation and international law.

Are you interested in city-building, public policy, urban planning, law, community development or creating positive change in your community? The Centre for Cities - C4C at the University of Windsor, in partnership with the City Institute (Detroit, MI), is pleased to invite you to our upcoming Civic Leaders Happy Hour.

Join us on Thursday, August 27 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on the Maiden Lane patio (494 Pelissier St, Windsor) in Downtown Windsor for an evening of networking, conversation, and connection with civic leaders from across Windsor-Essex and Detroit.

We are also hosting a Windsor Walking Tour before the happy hour from 3:00 - 5:00pm if you would like to learn about the small businesses, community projects and future plans for Windsor. The tour will start and end at Maiden Lane.

This event is a great opportunity to meet professionals working in municipal government, non-profit organizations, community development, research, advocacy, and the private sector, while connecting with fellow students who share an interest in shaping the future of our cities and communities.

Global collaboration, meaningful impact! ⚖️

Our very own Professor Shanthi Senthe will be co-organizing — Law & Society in South Asia: Interdisciplinary Perspectives from the Ground —, an international conference taking place in Colombo, Sri Lanka on July 28-29 in partnership with Stanford University and the University of Wisconsin Law School.

The conference will explore critical issues including human rights, environmental justice, governance, gender equality, and post-conflict reconstruction.
