Unlike a PhD, which addresses a purely academic question, the DBA research will engage with real world business issues and problems and the DBA is by its very nature interdisciplinary, and recognises that real world problems are dynamic, multi-faceted and complex. It allows the candidate to investigate contemporary issues facing the profession and to make a contribution to professional knowledge that is applied and practical in nature.
The SAU DBA enables the candidate to build up a doctoral submission by combining professional practice and the concept of the reflective practitioner with relevant academic theory; and apply this combination to the investigation of problems, the creation of solutions and the introduction of change within the candidate’s own workplace.
This reflective practice can draw retrospectively on previous work, and build upon current and developing work.
