With research driving business transformation and leadership, BSL’s Doctoral Acceleration Week is more relevant than ever.
Coming from across the globe, our doctoral candidates gather in Lausanne to dive into strategy, innovation, and some of today’s most pressing global challenges.
Last week, they took a well-deserved break from academic deep dives with a visit to the Olympic Museum - because even future doctors of business benefit from inspiration beyond the classroom.

Last week marked a powerful academic moment at BSL. Between May 12 and 16, doctoral candidates and mentors came together to dive beneath the surface of research—challenging each other’s thinking, articulating purpose, and building the intellectual integrity of their DBA work.

Led by our outstanding faculty—Prof. Eleanor Khonje, Prof. Sandra Schlick, Prof. Ganesh Nathan, Prof. Murray Clark, Prof. Erdal Atukeren, Prof. Igor Rotin, Prof. Vincent Giolito, and Prof. Dominique Bourqui—the week was a masterclass in what rigorous, meaningful research looks like when it meets the real world.

From dissecting grounded theory to exploring digital transformation, from theoretical frameworks to thematic analysis—every session was a space for generous inquiry.

Add to that: brilliant student presentations, honest Q&As, deep dives into complex business problems, and unforgettable community moments—like the aperitif where we celebrated the rich diversity of our international research community.

This was not just a week of lectures.
This was a week of connection, contribution, and clarity.
And we are proud to walk this doctoral journey together.

A heartfelt thank you to Acting Dean David Claivaz and the entire BSL team for their support—and to everyone who made this week memorable.

🔹 Guest Speaker Series | Industry Insights at BSL 🔹
Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming François Richter, CEO of Sodimed, to BSL for an insightful session on leading business transformation in the medtech industry.

François shared the story of Sodimed’s evolution—from a small, regional distributor to a strategic player in a rapidly advancing sector. But what truly resonated was how Sodimed managed transformation without losing its identity, navigating acquisitions, cultural integration, and strategic restructuring with clarity and purpose.

He shared 3 key lessons every business leader should keep in mind:

🔹 Stay mission-aligned during transitions. Growth is important, but not at the cost of your core values. Sodimed’s commitment to patients and healthcare professionals remained a guiding compass throughout.

🔹 Adapt your structure, not your identity. Whether centralizing or decentralizing, Sodimed demonstrated how agility and consistency can co-exist when guided by a clear philosophy.

🔹 Transformation is a team effort. From cultural alignment to empowering teams during mergers, François emphasized the critical importance of people in the change process.

François reminded us that transformation is not a phase—it is a mindset. His leadership journey offered a real-world lens on our coursework, linking strategy, structure, and culture in a tangible and inspiring way.

Thank you to Prof. Silvio Riva for bringing such relevant voices into our learning experience, and to François for sharing his story with such honesty and depth.

Christophe highlighted how successful post-merger integration is a defining factor for long-term success. Drawing on Stout’s work with family-owned businesses and cross-border transactions, he outlined the crucial role of culture, stakeholder engagement, and communication in business transformation.

His insights connected directly with our coursework—from change frameworks and strategic alignment to the emotional intelligence needed to lead through uncertainty.

What if business transformation was less about technology—and more about people, purpose, and sustainability?

This was the central question explored in our Business Transformation Strategy class with Yves Zieba, CEO and Managing Partner at Syntezia.

Yves inspired students to look beyond conventional innovation, introducing concepts and ideas he developed as an expert for the European Commission and Digital Transformation Strategist. His session highlighted how leaders can design companies that are not only market- and investment-ready, but also deeply aligned with the world’s most pressing challenges.

🔹 Key insights:
– True transformation starts with culture, collaboration, and values
– Innovation should serve both business and society
– Equipping future leaders means nurturing systems thinking and resilience

A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Silvio Riva and Yves Zieba for inspiring our students to lead and innovate with purpose, strategic vision, and a deep sense of responsibility.
