Since 2020 it is based at Berghotel Alpenblick in Tenna in the Safiental valley of Graubünden. The last edition was titled "LEARNING FROM THE EARTH".

ILEA is a competence and research center in the field of art & ecology and a think & do tank for socio-ecological transformation through art and culture. - Exhibitions, research projects, publications, workshops, symposia and residencies 🏔️🌱🌍 The Institute for Land and Environmental Art (ILEA) is a center for competence and research in art, ecology and creative industries in the peripheral Alpine

region that is currently being established. Since 2016, the otudoor Biennale ART SAFIENTAL and the international summer school ALPS ART ACADEMY, both on the topic of LAND and ENVIRONMENTAL ART take place every second year. In 2020 ILEA opened permanent rooms, a residency, research facilities and indoor exhibitions in Berghotel Alpenblick in Tenna. www.ilea.art

ART WALK ZURICH NORTH🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Corner of Elias Canetti-Strasse, 8050 Zurich

Join us for a guided walk through Zurich North exploring public art, urban transformation, and site-specific artistic practice in Oerlikon and Seebach. The walk brings together major works in public space by artists including Fischli/Weiss, Olafur Eliasson, Renée Levi, Yves Netzhammer, Annemie Fontana, Hans Josephsohn, and others.
Along the way, participants will gain insight into the changing urban fabric of Zurich North, including MFO-Park, Oerliker Park, and Max-Bill-Square. We will also visit Labör, Oerlikon’s new experimental community and cultural space, and learn more about ILEA’s work in the field of site-specific art.

Dritte Orte. Neue Räume für Zusammenhalt.
Treffe und vom 5.–6.Mai an der Konferenz «Dritte Orte» im Theater Basel.
Immer deutlicher zeigt sich: Die Zukunft von Kulturinstitutionen hängt auch davon ab, wie offen sie sich als gemeinschaftliche Räume verstehen. Orte also, die nicht nur Kunst zeigen, sondern an denen Austausch, Begegnung und Teilhabe selbstverständlich sind. Genau hier setzt das Konzept der «Dritten Orte» an – und sie entwickeln sich zusehends von einer schönen Ergänzung zu einem zentralen Bestandteil kultureller Arbeit.
An der Konferenz kommen Expert:innen, Praktiker:innen und Entscheidungsträger:innen aus Kulturinstitutionen, Architektur, Stadtplanung und Zivilgesellschaft zusammen. Gemeinsam erkunden sie, wie Kulturorte zu echten Dritten Orten werden können – zu Räumen, die Begegnung, Austausch und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe ermöglichen.

WALKING continues in 2026. Following the successful first edition in 2025, two further editions will take place, each consisting of a symposium and walkshops. Drawing on Annemarie and Lucius Burckhardt’s concept of promenadology, the science of walking, we invite artists, researchers, and walkers to explore walking as a critical, spatial, and artistic practice.

🧭 Formats: Walkshops, performative walks, lecture performances, roundtables, and talks.

WALK & TALK with Ernst Bromeis
🌊 A site-specific audio walk along the River Limmat. The pilot episode of ILEA’s new format combines conversation and movement in public space.

As they walk along the river, Johannes M. Hedinger and water ambassador Ernst Bromeis talk about water, activism, and Bromeis’ long-term water projects. Voices and the sounds of the river landscape come together in an immersive listening experience shaped by water, ecological transformation, and urban coexistence.

WALKING geht 2026 in die nächste Runde. Nach der erfolgreichen ersten Durchführung im Jahr 2025 folgen zwei weitere Ausgaben mit jeweils einem Symposium und Walkshops. Ausgehend von der Promenadologie (Spaziergangswissenschaft) von Annemarie und Lucius Burckhardt laden wir Künstler:innen, Forscher:innen und Spaziergänger:innen ein, das Gehen als kritische, räumliche und künstlerische Praxis zu erkunden.

Last week, the workshop “ART & SUSTAINABLE FUTURES” took place as part of the ZHdK Winter School. We were hosted at Labör in Oerlikon, which we used as a base for neighbourhood research, reflection, and hands on workshop work. On the final day, participants tested potential transformation ideas for the MFO site through temporary, site specific interventions in the area around Labör.

Letzte Woche fand der Workshop „ART & SUSTAINABLE FUTURES“ im Rahmen der ZHdK Winter School statt. Wir waren zu Gast im Labör in Oerlikon, das wir als Ausgangspunkt zur Quartierrecherche, Denk- und Werkstatt nutzen konnten. Am letzten Tag erprobten die Teilnehmenden mittels temporärerer ortsspezifischer Eingriffe im Umraum von Labör potentielle Transformationsideen für das MFO-Areal.
