In her research, Assistant Professor Aisling O’Carroll asks how we can design for a changing climate by learning from the past.

In an interview, she reflects on the value of historical research, the potential of design-based methods in teaching, and the Swiss Alps as a uniquely rich site for understanding landscape change, resilience, and future transformation.

“The Alps provide a valuable lens through which to examine how societies understand, manage, and adapt to environmental change”: Read the interview in the NSL blog: https://www.nsl.ethz.ch/the-alps-provide-a-valuable-lens-through-which-to-examine-how-societies-understand-manage-and-adapt-to-environmental-change/

During a journey through Mainland Southeast Asia, students Alexander Bennet and Marvin Ebneter visited and exchanged with architects in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.

In a book, they present nine locally rooted buildings that create complex atmospheres and unique spaces using simple means, often far removed from grand theories and names.

With photos, plans and essays, the publication is an invitation to pay attention to lesser-known voices and learn from other cultures in architecture.
