🚍 Meet Ariana Salas-Castillo, our second Scholar in Residence of 2025!

A postdoctoral researcher at the School, she is investigating the political economy of urban mobility in Latin America.

Despite Santiago’s world-leading electric bus fleet and gender-inclusive transport policies, emissions aren’t dropping and ridership isn’t rising as expected. Over the next weeks, she’ll be interviewing public officials and academics to uncover the institutional and political barriers behind this gap.

Stay tuned for insights into how public and private transport reforms can truly transform our cities—and our climate—by moving people fairly, sustainably and effectively.

💬 “I’m grateful to Santiago for supporting this project in a city that feels more and more familiar,” she said after arriving.

Welcome, Ariana! 👉🏽 Read more at the link in bio!

As .global’s first Scholar in Residence in Santiago, Schaefer shared insights from decades of glacier research to emphasize the urgency of collective, science-based solutions. His powerful message: if emissions aren’t curbed, 80% of glaciers could vanish by 2100.

🌎 On this , we’re reminded that protecting our planet means protecting its water. From the Andes to the Arctic, understanding ice melt is key to climate resilience.
