Could it be that we voted for a coward?

The recent call by Issa Tchiroma Bakary for Cameroonians to bang pots, pans, and honk horns has triggered mixed reactions online.
In a Facebook post, he urged citizens to make their voices heard, stating that the “liberation of our country is near.”
While some supporters welcomed the message, many online users reacted with humor rather than mobilization. The comment sections quickly turned into a wave of memes and jokes, with some comparing his tone and gestures to pop culture figures.
Beyond the jokes, others raised questions about the effectiveness and seriousness of such protest methods in the current political climate.
Whether one agrees or not, the conversation shows how quickly political messaging now transforms into online culture and meme reactions.

🚨 SAMUEL ETO'O WINS TAX CASE IN SPAIN, ENDING 21-YEAR LEGAL BATTLE.

Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto'o has reportedly emerged victorious in a long-running tax dispute with Spanish authorities, closing a legal chapter that began during his Barcelona days in 2005.

The case centered on allegations related to undeclared income arrangements and involved claims and penalties estimated at around €409,000.

After more than two decades of legal proceedings, the matter has now reportedly been resolved, bringing an end to one of the most prolonged off-field battles of Eto'o's career.

A four-time African Player of the Year and Cameroon’s all-time leading scorer, Eto'o can now put behind him a case that followed him long after his retirement from professional football.

🇨🇲⚽ The verdict marks the conclusion of a 21-year legal saga for one of Africa's greatest football icons.

⚖️ Martinez Zogo Case: Former Intelligence Chief Questions Expert Witness

During proceedings at the Military Court, former Cameroonian intelligence chief Maxime Eko Eko Leopold questioned Professor Bitjoka on his academic background in Russia, alleged connections, and the digital evidence presented in court.

Professor Bitjoka stated that he studied in Russia from 2000 to 2007 and denied ever meeting or working for Eko Eko. He added that he served as an adviser to a former intelligence chief between 2007 and 2009.

The hearing then shifted to technical issues surrounding operational communications and digital forensic evidence. Eko Eko questioned the handling of three phones seized after his arrest, particularly concerns about the condition of devices reportedly kept under seal.

According to the digital expert, no evidence of communications linking the accused to the Presidency, the Prime Minister's Office, or the BIR was found in the extracted data. The expert also indicated that no digital links connecting certain suspects in the Martinez Zogo case were identified.

The court further examined recovered exchanges dated October 5, 2022, involving Lieutenant Colonel Danwe and former DGI manager Modeste Mopa. The expert testified that some deleted conversations were successfully recovered using forensic software.

Proceedings became briefly tense following objections from the defense regarding the interpretation of certain statements, prompting the court president to intervene before the hearing continued.

🚨 CAMEROON GCE 2026: EXAMS UNDER CCTV SURVEILLANCE AS DEBATE GROWS OVER GOVERNMENT PRIORITIES
The 2026 General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations in Cameroon are being conducted under strict video surveillance, with the GCE Board making CCTV cameras mandatory in examination halls and accommodation centres. Schools that fail to install surveillance systems risk losing their status as examination centres, while candidates may be transferred to compliant centres.
According to the GCE Board, the measure is aimed at combating examination malpractice, improving security, and preserving the credibility of the exams. The written phase of the 2026 GCE officially began on June 2, with more than 208,000 candidates nationwide.

However, the policy has sparked public debate. While many citizens welcome tougher measures against cheating, others question whether the government's priorities are aligned with the daily realities faced by many communities. Critics argue that several areas continue to struggle with poor road infrastructure, inadequate school facilities, and economic hardship, raising concerns about the cost of implementing surveillance technology while basic needs remain unmet.
Supporters of the initiative maintain that credible examinations are essential for the future of the country's education system and that technology can help restore confidence in academic assessments.
What do you think?
Should Cameroon prioritize CCTV surveillance in examination halls, or should resources first be directed toward roads, school infrastructure, and other pressing needs?
