The National Conference for Teachers of English / Conferencia Nacional para Profesores de Ingles (NCTE) Costa Rica

The National Conference for Teachers of English started approximately thirty years ago as an initiative of the office of the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the United States of America, the Ministry of Public Education, and the Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano, entities that are concerned –ever since they started-- about providing English teachers with the opportunity to be updated

in relevant topics in the field of English teaching. Since 1984, all the conferences have taken place at the facilities of the C.C.C.N. because it has all the necessary services to shelter a considerable number of teachers that come from all over the country and from other countries.

Participants in this workshop will explore how to create engaging and challenging tasks for the English classroom that reflect these real-world demands (e.g., collecting, analyzing, and presenting data; creating infographics; completing collaborative projects). Participants will practice applying a framework to define the forms and functions of academic language necessary to successfully complete these rigorous classroom tasks and projects.
