Official Joint Statement:

After a workshop and first round of discussion, VOIS Cyprus, the National Association of Nigerian Students Turkish Zone (NANS Tr) and representatives, The Gambian Student Association, the Botswana Society, the Liberian Student Society, the Somali Students Union in Cyprus, the Egyptian Student Communities, the Sierra Leoneans in North Cyprus, and the Congolese of North Cyprus met in a working group to discuss challenges facing international students and other migrant groups. Some issues identified included but are not limited to; increasing housing rents, access to healthcare, internationals in prison, immigration problems, gender related discrimination, rising racism and xenophobia, communication barriers, labor exploitation and lack of jobs, and in general the difficult living conditions for international students as a result of the hike in prices and the failure of the responsible authorities to come up with solutions to students’ problems.

Going forward, we will continue ongoing talks and encourage more student representatives and other migrant communities to join this working group to further deliberate on these issues as well as others facing our communities. We believe that it is important that every community is represented in this upcoming coalition to better channel our resources to achieve fair living standards and human rights respect for all.

[OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT]

We would like to gladly announce that Mr. Abdala Farag is the official President of the Egyptian Student Society for the 2021/2022 term after winning the elections that were conducted last Tuesday, the 28th of December 2021.
We wish him and his nominated cabinet the best of luck and hoping to see all Egyptians united, safe and delighted.

On Friday the 10th of December, the President of the Egyptian Student Society Mr. Yousef Toaimah was gladly invited to attend a Symposium arranged by VOIS Cyprus on the Occasion of the Human Rights Day. The Symposium was also attended by the U.S Ambassador to Cyprus Mrs. Judith Garber U.S. Embassy Cyprus who was the Guest Speaker of the occasion . Mr. Toaimah was also pleased to meet with the U.S Embassy's Political-Economic and Human Rights Officer Mr. James Smythers.
Finally on behalf of the entire Egyptian Community we would like to extend our gratitude for the continuous efforts of Vois across the Island.
The Symposium represented the Last Official Act of Mr. Yousef Toaimah and his respected Executive Cabinet Members who served the Society for almost 4 years. From all of us here at the EGYSS, we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
