Mission:
The aim of the Lab is to explore issues such as digitization, archiving and promotion of cultural heritage, tangible and intangible remains of our cultural past, and how the latest technological developments can deliver this legacy to different users. Description
The Laboratory of Digital Cultural Heritage collaborates on a national level with all relevant private as well as public sectors. At a European level the Lab collaborates with a network of over 160 partners from the academic, research and industrial sector working towards the development of new tools and applications. The research focuses on four thematic areas: recording, access, management and conservation.

The Digital Heritage Summit 2026 week begins on 25 May 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus.
We look forward to welcoming partners, institutions, researchers, policymakers and innovators for a week dedicated to Europe’s digital cultural heritage.
Organised by the Unesco Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage in cooperation with Heritage Malta under the auspices of the Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού - Deputy Ministry of Culture CY Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 , the Summit will bring together policy, research, technology, innovation and cultural heritage protection to help shape the future of Europe’s shared heritage.

Today in 2012, a landmark moment took place in : during the EU Ministers of Culture Summit, under the Presidency the first-ever 3D object was harvested into Europeana.eu Digital EU .

The honor belonged to , as the ‑listed Monument was officially harvested by the Minister of Education and Culture, Frederick University Cyprus

This pioneering work, followed by holistic documentation and a full presentation, later earned us the EU Innovators Award in 2018.

We are very proud of how Cypriot culture and innovation helped shape Europe’s digital heritage journey.

The initiative showcases how Extended Reality (XR), immersive technologies, and Digital Heritage innovation can contribute to the preservation, accessibility, and sustainable valorisation of Europe’s cultural legacy. Through the Saint Neofytos XR experience, visitors are invited to engage with heritage in new and meaningful ways, bridging the physical and digital worlds while strengthening cultural identity, education, and social inclusion.
