Our Fellows and CIM Faculty Dr Nektarios Michael and Dr Konstantinos Melas are back with yet another intriguing publication. Their new paper, entitled ‘Buy Together, but Recycle Alone: Sentiment-driven Herding Behavior in Oceanic Dry Bulk Shipping’ has been published in the prestigious Review of Behavioral Finance journal (1* ABS). The paper investigates how market sentiment affects the herding behavior of shipping investors in a real asset market, with the authors employing the vessels that comprise the dry bulk segment of the maritime industry. Results demonstrate, inter alia, that the behavioural aspect of investing, measured through intentional and unintentional herding, contrary to the results for financial markets, is affected by sentiment on the buy side (new buildings) but not on the sell side (scrapping). Check out the paper here👇 https://www.emerald.com/insight/content/doi/10.1108/RBF-06-2021-0103/full/html.

We're delighted to see yet another publication by our Fellow Dr Konstantinos Melas.

Dr Melas's new paper has been published in the prestigious Maritime Economic & Logistics journal (1* ABS) and co-authored with Dr Dimitris Tsouknidis & Prof. Photis Panayides.

The paper investigates whether dynamic volatility spillovers across freight-shipping markets can be explained by a comprehensive set of indicators capturing shipping investors’ sentiment.

Head over to our website to learn more about the paper - and keep checking our news feed there to keep abreast of all the exciting research taking place at the centre.
