🇬🇷 Two weeks in Greece, plenty of new ideas and collaborations!
Ievgen Obraztsov and Zdeněk Baďura from CATRIN spent two weeks in April at the University of Ioannina, working together with the startup PDoT.tech led by Prof. Lazaros Tzounis.
🔋 Their focus? Printed electronics and 3D-printed energy storage devices.
🤝 The result? New opportunities for joint research, publications, project proposals, and Erasmus mobility, including a planned stay by a Greek PhD student in Olomouc.
✨ The visit was made possible thanks to the APPROACH_project.
A big thank you to Prof. Lazaros Tzounis, Dr. George Karalis, and the entire PDoT.tech team for the warm welcome, inspiring discussions, and great scientific exchange!

🎉 Skvělá zpráva z mezinárodní konference!
Petra Čechová z CATRIN Univerzita Palackého získala ocenění Best Poster Award na mezinárodním setkání COSY COST ACTION CA21101 General Meeting.
Na konferenci zaměřené na molekulární systémy představila poster s názvem „Geometry and phase behavior of nonlamellar lipids in confined environments“ a zaujala i jeho ústní prezentací.
🗣️ „Z ocenění mám velkou radost, protože není snadné toto téma srozumitelně vysvětlit. Při přípravě posteru jsem se snažila využít zkušenosti z komunikace vědy, které jsem získala v CATRIN,“ říká Petra.
👩‍🔬 Petra zároveň koordinuje iniciativu FemCOSY, která podporuje ženy ve vědě.

🇬 Petra Čechová from CATRIN, Palacký University Olomouc has won the Best Poster Award at the international COSY COST ACTION CA21101 conference.
At the meeting focused on molecular systems, she presented her poster “Geometry and phase behavior of nonlamellar lipids in confined environments” and engaged the audience with her accompanying talk.
🗣️ “I was very happy about the award because it is not easy to explain this issue concisely. While preparing the poster, I tried to apply the knowledge of science communication that I gained at CATRIN,” said Čechová.
👩‍🔬 👩‍🔬 Petra is also the coordinator of FemCOSY, an initiative supporting women in science.

👨‍🔬 Naši vědci Michal Otyepka a Lukáš Spíchal natáčeli včera v Český rozhlas Olomouc díky spolupráci Academia Film Olomouc s online publicistickým a zpravodajským webem FocusOn rozhovory o vědě (nejen) v CATRIN. Došlo i na konkrétní projekty včetně .
A co bylo leitmotivem obou interview? Společná řeč, což je nejen hlavní téma letošního ročníku festivalu, ale také nezbytný předpoklad pro to, jak ve vědě uspět.
👉 FocusOn se věnuje hlavně tématům z oblasti byznysu, ekonomiky, technologií a inovací.

🇬 👨‍🔬 Thanks to collaboration between AFO and the online journalism and news website FocusOn, Michal Otyepka and Lukáš Spíchal recorded interviews yesterday at Český rozhlas Olomouc about science (not only) at CATRIN.
What was the common thread running through both interviews? A common language, which is not only the main theme of this year’s festival but also an essential prerequisite for success in science.

Ta se v posledním století neuvěřitelně specializovala a každý obor si vytvořil vlastní jazyk, přitom ty nejzásadnější objevy dnes vznikají na jejich rozhraní. Hledání společné řeči je proto podmínkou skutečně průlomového výzkumu,“ říká ředitel CATRIN Pavel Banáš.
Těší nás, že můžeme být partnerem festivalu, který propojuje vědu, film i veřejnost a pomáhá hledat společnou řeč napříč obory i světy. 🌍✨

Work hard, play hard
After submitting a record-high number of GACR grant proposals, altogether over 30, it was time for a well-deserved brake. Thanks to all who came to play bowling and spend some time with colleagues outside work.
We could definitely see some bowling potential in many of our staff members. Good to know they have options…😊

Welcoming a new team member 💐
We are pleased to introduce Paulina Alvarado a Ph.D. student from the Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí, Mexico who has joined the Plant–Environment Interactions group led by Nuria De Diego.
Her previous experience spans understanding how polyamines, through their catabolism, contribute to plant defense, which she will continue to study at CATRIN. Moreover, how polyamines can regulate gene expression through their catabolism, acetylation profiles, and chromatin structure. 🌱

The collaboration between ICN2 and CATRIN continues 🤝
Last week, Miquel Madrid Gimeno from Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) visited CATRIN. As part of the MINIGRAPH EIC Pathfinder project, he spent a week at the Biolaboratory of the BioMed group, led by Kateřina Poláková, setting up and conducting preliminary tests on the newly developed rGO microelectrodes on neural cells 🧠🔬
Stimulating neural cells in vitro should provide new insights into the direct interaction between neural implants and brain cells, offering a deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms of cells after stimulation ⚡
And after work, we also made time for an important team-building session 🍻

🧠 Read the 5th newsletter of the 2D-BioPAD project
2d-biopad aims to introduce a fast and cost-effective, minimally invasive, reliable, digitally and graphene enabled Point-of-Care (PoC) in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) system for supporting the early diagnosis and progression monitoring of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) directly at primary healthcare settings.
Led by scientists from CATRIN at Palacký University, the project brings together 11 partners.
