A literary countdown to Frankfurt begins…

In 2026, Czechia will become the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair - the world’s largest and most influential book fair. A major moment for Czech literature, storytelling, illustration, typography, and book culture as a whole.

We are excited to share the new series by the Česká centra/Czech Centres highlighting authors who continue to shape Czech literature across generations. And who better to start with than Božena Němcová - a foundational voice whose stories still resonate far beyond the Czech literary canon.

The visual series was created at the Didactic Illustration Studio/Ateliér didaktické ilustrace✨

✨ On Wednesday, the exhibition project Balance / Rovnováha was officially launched with an opening at Galerie města Plzně presenting a wide spectrum of student works from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. From audiovisual and interactive installations to painting, sculpture, photography, fashion, and graphic design, the exhibition explores balance not as a fixed state, but as a fragile and ever-changing process.

Set against the backdrop of climate crisis, digital overload, social polarization, and shifting human relationships, the project reflects on the tensions between stability and instability, order and chaos, physical and digital realities.

And this is only the beginning...

ArtCamp is celebrating 20 years 🎉

To mark the occasion, an outdoor exhibition called ArtCamp: 20 Years of Creativity is now on display along the Radbuza riverfront in the centre of Pilsen. It looks back at how the international summer school began, how it has evolved over the years, and shows its atmosphere in photos.

Every summer, ArtCamp brings together people from different countries who share an interest in art, design and creativity. Participants can choose from a wide range of courses led by artists, designers and lecturers from the Czech Republic and abroad.

The exhibition runs until 10 July 2026.

Would you like to spend your summer at the Sutnar Faculty?
Applications for the remaining available courses are open until the end of May.

ArtCamp is fi nancially supported by the Statutory City of Pilsen

A new chapter in the collaboration between the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art and the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre / DJKT Plzeň has begun.

We are sharing photographs from the first exhibition presented within a new exhibition format at Malá scéna DJKT, where student artworks from Sutnar Faculty will now regularly meet theatre audiences throughout the year.

The opening exhibition, Architecture of Punishment by Graphic Art / Grafika student Vojtěch Šavel, is on view until 26 June 2026. Through charcoal, pigments, and sand coatings, Šavel explores themes of guilt, punishment, fragility, and institutional violence in a powerful series inspired by records from juvenile detention facilities.

This collaboration is about more than exhibitions. Together with the theatre, Sutnar Faculty aims to create a lasting dialogue between visual and performing arts and to bring student work into direct contact with the public. As Dean Vojtěch Aubrecht says in the interview for INFO.zcu, art exists through dialogue — and every meaningful encounter with an audience matters.

The partnership will continue with new exhibitions and interdisciplinary projects, including the upcoming HAVEL 26 programme inspired by the legacy of Václav Havel.

Looking back: Sutnar Faculty at Supermarket - Stockholm Independent Art Fair 2026

Last week, our faculty was part of the vibrant international scene at the Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm - a unique artist-run fair bringing together independent galleries and art initiatives from across the world.

Our presentation, created in collaboration with Altán Klamovka, was titled Extended Presence. The project brought together Czech artist Michal Poustka, American artists Ismael de Anda III and Eugene Ahn, and Macedonian graphic designer Laze Tripkov.

🤝 This collaboration doesn’t end in Stockholm.
Already tomorrow, the first exhibition created in partnership with Altán Klamovka opens in Prague - marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

From Pilsen to Bologna: Sutnar Faculty at the world’s leading children’s book fair

Every spring, the global illustration scene gathers at the Bologna Children's Book Fair - and once again, our students and teachers were there.

For years, Bologna has been more than just a destination. It’s a place where stories meet opportunity, where young illustrators connect with publishers, and where careers quietly begin.

💬 As Renáta Fučíková, head of the Didactic Illustration studio, puts it: the goal is not only to present work - but to help students find their future in the field.

And the results speak for themselves:
Two Czech books selected for the prestigious Bologna Ragazzi Award Amazing Bookshelf - both connected to our faculty
Finalists in the Illustrators Exhibition and Silent Book Contest
Strong presence across studios - from Didactic Illustration to Comics and Book Design

Kateřina Illnerová celebrates a major success at the Magnesia Litera 2026 - and we celebrate with her!

Her comic book With Love, V. has won in the Children’s and Young Adult category, telling a tender story of a grandmother and her granddaughter, whose relationship unfolds through illustrated postcards - transforming distance into shared journeys across the world.

Kateřina proves that courage, talent, creativity, and the willingness to find one’s own voice truly matter in today’s literary landscape. When sensitivity, empathy, and a distinctive artistic voice come together, they create stories that stand out - even in a world overwhelmed by content.

👏 Congratulations to Kateřina and all the nominees - we wish you many more inspiring stories to come!

Every Body. Every Detail. Every Story👑

We’re proud to share that Klára Kocúriková, a student from our Studio of Metalworking and Jewellery, has been selected as a finalist of the 34th International Jewellery Competition EVERY BODY in Legnica.

Her project “Crown of Beauty” will be presented as part of the exhibition at the Gallery of Art in Legnica / Galeria Sztuki w Legnicy, within the renowned Legnica Jewellery Festival Silver - a key platform for contemporary jewellery in Europe and beyond.

📅🎉 8 – 9 May 2026

Klára’s work was created during the Winter Semester 2024/25 as part of the Venus Today project. Through her piece, she addresses the powerful theme of social stigmatization connected to women’s hair. As she reflects, when jewellery transforms into a crown, it can evoke discomfort - even rejection - yet a woman remains herself, with or without hair.

We are proud to see our students represented on such an important international stage.
