🇷🇸 In April, we were delighted to host our GPS programme alumnus Mihajlo Kopanja from the University of Belgrade as a Visiting Professor.

🌍 In his Master’s course focused on the Geopolitics of the Balkans he examined how historical legacies and the strategic interests of external powers continue to shape this key European crossroads.

💪 Our students gained a unique opportunity to analyze the current geopolitical framework of the Balkan peninsula through expert discussion.

🇬🇧 Our researchers were at the University of Birmingham on 23–25 April for COMPTEXT 2026, the leading conference for text-as-data methods in political science.

📊 They presented cutting-edge research on how to examine large-scale data with LLMs to better understand questions in contemporary international politics, such as the framing of protests in the Middle East, the EU’s global trade strategy in an age of challenged multilateralism, or the Government-opposition dynamics of IO scapegoating.

🤖 The team also presented new methodological work validating machine translation as a reliable tool for comparative political text analysis, alongside novel large-scale datasets.

🤩 Beyond their own panels, the team participated in methodological workshops to stay at the forefront of what's possible with text-as-data approaches today.

🤩 Ve středu 22. dubna jsme v Jinonicích přivítali protikorupčního experta a dlouholetého šéfa české pobočky Transparency International (2008–2020) David Ondráčka.

💸 V rámci kurzu Workshop Politické a státní instituce v praxi se studenty diskutoval o protikorupčním boji a stavu české politiky. Představil také svou obsáhlou knihu, kterou lze jedině doporučit.

🤖 In addition to the long appreciated courses on AI at the Department of Security Studies, Petr Špelda and Vít Střítecký have contributed to the creation of one of the most significant AI benchmarks of today, Humanity’s Last Exam.

⚖️ Their evaluation problem, concerning the relationship between AI safety and the epistemology of inductive inference, succeeded among tens of thousands of problems proposed by scientists from around the world. A paper stemming from this project, of which they are both co-authors, was published in Nature.
