The Institute of International Studies is an organizational part of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. The Institute offers bachelor‘s, master‘s and doctoral degree programmes in modern history and area studies. It concentrates its activities on four primary regions: the countries of the former Soviet Union and East-Central Europe, the German-speaking countries of Central Europe

Welcome to the Institute of International Studies - a regional centre of teaching and research in area studies and modern history.

The Institute of International Studies is a division of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. The Institute offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in area studies and modern history. It concentrates its activities on four primary regions: North America, Western Europe, the German-speaking countries, the countries of the former Soviet Union, East-Central Europe, and South-Eastern Europe.

Interdisciplinary. We link the disciplines of political science, modern history, economics culture, and international relations.

International. We support the mobility of students and academic staff, we host leading international experts, and we actively participate in international scientific projects.
