A big thank you to our BIGSAS Junior Fellow Representatives for organizing such a meaningful event, which brought together an engaged audience and sparked a truly fruitful discussion.

Yesterday’s screening of Khartoum and the discussion that followed created a powerful space for reflection and exchange. The film’s portrayal of everyday lives shaped by conflict in Sudan resonated deeply, opening up important conversations on freedom, dignity, and survival.

We are grateful to everyone who joined, shared their thoughts, and contributed to such an engaging dialogue. Events like this remind us of the importance of coming together to learn, reflect, and connect through critical storytelling.

Stay tuned for more events!

🎬 Film Screening & Discussion:

Join us on 29 April 2026 at 18:00 in Room H26 (GWI) for a special academic screening of Khartoum, followed by an open discussion.

The film follows five individuals—a civil servant, a tea vendor, a motorbike medic, and two street boys—whose lives reflect the fate of a city and a country at war. Their stories offer a powerful exploration of freedom, dignity, and survival amid revolution and conflict in Sudan.

🎥 Started in 2022 by Sudanese filmmakers with a British director/writer, the project evolved as war broke out, continuing in exile in East Africa. The result is a deeply human portrait of resilience, dreams, and loss.

⚠️ Content warning: themes of war and violence
