Artists in the Cluster | Epifania Akosua Amoo-Adare

Artist, womanist-feminist scholar, architect, and development professional, Dr. Epifania Akosua Amoo-Adare brings a truly multifaceted practice to the Cluster, centred on the "art of unthinking": challenging outdated paradigms and fostering self-transformation through critical literacies and decolonial narratives.

Also known as her creative persona A.B. Godfreed, Epifania blends art, technology, and critical thought to co-create spaces for dialogue and creativity across education, architecture, and international development.

During her residency, she co-created the exhibition "Who is Lucy!?!" with Ann-Marie Ellmann, exploring knowledge-making and decolonial storytelling.

🎧 She also joined Dr. Christine Vogt-William and Ann-Marie Ellmann for Episode 33 of our Cluster Conversations podcast. Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7wI4XIVyeiTO6Zg0XCnyZd?si=JYmKe8teQ6Sqb7pvx7WKKA

Rooted in the sounds of the Indian Ocean, sega, maloya, jazz and beyond, Réunionese guitarist and composer Jean-Pierre JOSÉPHINE, alias Jozéfinn', has built a singular musical world that crosses continents and genres.

Training in Paris under Spanish classical guitar master Alberto Ponce and in jazz improvisation, he developed a unique polyphonic Indo-Oceanic "world jazz" style. His seventh album Fandamane, released in April 2025 on Spanish label Protomaterial Records, is his most powerful yet. A SACEM award winner and author of six acclaimed albums, his work spans music, theatre, poetry and dance.

We were delighted to have him perform at our New Year Lecture 2026: "Worldmaking in Thought, Image and Sound".

🎬 In Conversation: Kofi Owusu-Afriyie and Adebanjo Baderin

Ghanaian producer Kofi Owusu-Afriyie sat down with Adebanjo Baderin at the 17th edition of Cinema Africa Bayreuth to talk about the remarkable journey behind The Fisherman, from a spontaneous idea to Ghana's first film selected for Venice.

In the interview, Kofi unpacks the film's genre as a whimsical fantasy comedy, the inspiration behind its iconic talking fish character and its roots in African oral tradition, how the story explores tradition, modernity and gender equality in Ghanaian coastal communities and what it means for African cinema that The Fisherman became the first West African film to premiere at Venice and has since earned over 15 international awards and an NAACP nomination.

🎬 Film Screening & Discussion | Khartoum

The BIGSAS Junior Fellow representatives will be hosting a special academic screening of Khartoum, followed by an open discussion.

The film follows five individuals: a civil servant, a tea vendor, a motorbike medic, and two street boys whose lives reflect the fate of a city and a country at war. Their stories offer a powerful exploration of freedom, dignity, and survival amid revolution and conflict in Sudan.

🎥 Started in 2022 by Sudanese filmmakers with a British director/writer, the project evolved as war broke out, continuing in exile in East Africa. The result is a deeply human portrait of resilience, dreams, and loss.
