This page is dedicated to the participation of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

The Humboldt Vis Moot Team represents the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in one of the largest students competitions in the world: The Annual Willem C. Every year over 300 universities from all around the world participate in this prestigious event. Registration for the Berlin Premoot 2023 is now open!

The Premoot is taking place from Thursday, 9th March to Saturday, 11th March 2023 at the Juristische Fakultät of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Registration closes on Saturday, 7th January 2023. Please note that registration does not guarantee participation in the Premoot, as places are limited. We will be in touch with all teams by mid-January to confirm participation.

Aina Hannisa:

Aina Hannisa studied law at University College Cork, Ireland, before moving to Berlin where she completed an LL.M. in International Dispute Resolution at Humboldt University of Berlin in 2019. She was part of the Quercus Talented Students’ Scholarship Programme which enabled her to continue playing piano, violin, harpsichord and organ in parallel with her law studies. During the course of her bachelor’s degree, she also spent a year studying abroad at Université de Montréal, Canada. Over the years, Aina gained significant practical experience working in the arbitration team of a major international law firm in Frankfurt, as well as in the corporate department of one of Ireland’s largest law firms in Dublin. Aina spent the last two years working for the International Dispute Resolution LL.M. at the chair of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Wagner, and now works there as a research assistant and co-academic coordinator of the programme. Aina participated in the Vis (East) Moot in its 27th/17th season in 2020, and coached the Humboldt University team last year for the 28th/18th Vis (East) Moot. Aina speaks native English and German, fluent Indonesian and has basic knowledge of French. Aina is an avid rock climber, and loves running, cycling, and baking cakes for the Humboldt team meetings.

Ina Frieling:

Ina Frieling is a trainee lawyer at the Higher Regional Court of Berlin. She studied law at Humboldt University of Berlin (2014-2020), the University Panthéon Assas in Paris (2016-2018) and the University of Amsterdam (2020-2021). She gained practical experience in international commercial law while working as a research assistant for a law firm in Berlin. Ina participated in the 28th/18th Vis Moot for the University of Amsterdam. She speaks German, French, English and Spanish. In her free time she likes top rope climbing, running and eating Aina’s cakes.

Oguzhan Samanci:

Oguzhan Samanci studied law at Humboldt University of Berlin and at King’s College London and graduated in March 2021. He currently divides his time between working as a research assistant to Professor Dr. Gerhard Wagner and as a research assistant in the dispute resolution practice of CMS, focusing on international arbitration. Prior to his graduation, he gained practical experience working for the International Dispute Resolution LL.M. program at Humboldt University of Berlin, at two international law firms and at the German Parliament. Oguzhan participated in the 26th/16th Willem C. Vis (East) Moot. His team reached the quarter-finals in Hong Kong and he was awarded an individual honourable mention for his performance as an oralist. Having coached the Humboldt University of Berlin team for the 28th/18th Willem C. Vis (East) Moot, Oguzhan decided to stay on board and continue coaching this year. He speaks English, German and Turkish fluently and has basic knowledge of French.
