Now AR also seems to be dead. VR has been dead for some time, but Apple would bring the breakthrough for AR - or so it was thought. In my opinion, this means that the whole immersive thing is dead, or is taking a break and joining interactive documentary film, which has been in pause mode for several years. The question is: why doesn't immersive work?
I have an answer to this (as an always-already immersive-hater): We live in turbulent times. People want more of an overview, they want to look at things from a meta-perspective. Not to go into the details, but to see the overall meaning. The meta-perspective is something the immersive approach can't offer.
By the way, interactive documentary is great for the meta-perspective but only if you do it in a certain way which I call korsakowian ;-)
Offenbar sinkt das Interesse an Apples Vision Pro. Erneut könnte eine VR-Brille floppen. Liegt es am Preis? Vielleicht. Oder daran, dass Headsets einfach lästig sind.
