Film Academy as political space?

The DFFB, which owns proudly a history of political filmmaking has become a space where interaction with contemporary political events is rarely collectively experienced. But in times of rising fascism, it is important to reflect on the means and the aesthetics of political film, as well as on issues that come with production and distribution.

On the 28.05. we invite you to a gathering where we want to discuss aesthetic and potential of political film, with inputs by Julia Lazarus (“Radical Film Network”), Paloma Schnitzer („the other classroom“, Udk”) and students from other film schools.

We aim to form new bonds and alliances, discuss ideas and strategies and challenge our position within the current political landscape in Germany. These issues are directly linked to the massive crackdown on voices expressing solidarity with Palestine and the resulting restrictions on fundamental democratic rights, which are increasingly putting not only political protests but also artistic freedom and the cultural landscape under pressure.

As part of the "Salon für Faultiere", this is the second of three events, where we watch movies, hear inputs, discuss. There will also be some snacks.

We welcome your suggestions.

„Du bist immer dann am besten, wenn’s dir eigentlich egal ist.“

Für unser erstes Openair-Screening in diesem Jahr laden wir euch zu einem Abend voller Experimente und unfertiger Ideen ein.

🏡 Ort: Vollgut-Gemeinschaftsgarten, Am Sudhaus 4, Berlin

⏰ Zeit: 27.05, 21:30 Uhr

Open Air • Eintritt frei • Eine Kollaboration der Filmarche und des Zuhause e.V.

Perfektion nervt.

***ENGLISH***

“You’re always at your best when you actually don’t care that much.”

For our first open-air screening of the year, we invite you to an evening of experiments and unfinished ideas.

🏡 Location: Vollgut Community Garden, Am Sudhaus 4, Berlin

⏰ Time: 27th of May, Start at 9:30 PM

Open Air • Free entry • A collaboration between Filmarche and Zuhause e.V.

Perfection is annoying. And it keeps us from trying things out. We’ll screen and talk about films that are playful, don’t take themselves too seriously, and dare to experiment.

Come by, bring your friends, have a drink with us, and watch films that are willing to fail.

🫧 dear archies and friends 🫧

we‘re happy to invite you to the first class of this year‘s advanced course on film and political activism. In this course, we want to engage with the intersections of film(-making) and activism. In weekly events from May until July, we want to explore different aspects, watch films, come together, discuss, and connect filmmakers, activists and collectives.

Just a glimpse into the programme: collective filmmaking and worker struggles, q***r p**n and s*x work activism, cinema as political space, interventions on the media landscape, archive politics and much more…

The exact programme and upcoming dates will be announced next week.

Join us for the kick-off meeting on Thursday, May 14 at FilmArche (Lahnstr 25, 12055 Berlin).

The course is open for everyone.

New Workshop Alert!

Writing and Pitching for Serialized TV

📆May 16th and 17th
📍filmArche

So, you have an idea for a TV series. Or, you’ve already written a TV pilot. What comes next?

In this workshop, students will learn how to take the next steps toward getting their TV series ideas off the page and onto the screen. They can expect to hone their pitch, develop pitch materials producers want to read, and leave with a better understanding of how to get their series made.

Students will be guided into the world of professional TV writing by a working screenwriter, learning some basics, such as how to identify their series’ story engine and tell a never-ending story. The main focus will be a detailed look at the craft of pitching, including how to develop industry standard materials such as the log line, elevator pitch, one-pager, and series bible.

All fiction genres and formats are welcome. Learn more here 📲 https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260516_PitchingwithWillB
