Film Academy as political space?
The DFFB, which owns proudly a history of political filmmaking has become a space where interaction with contemporary political events is rarely collectively experienced. But in times of rising fascism, it is important to reflect on the means and the aesthetics of political film, as well as on issues that come with production and distribution.
On the 28.05. we invite you to a gathering where we want to discuss aesthetic and potential of political film, with inputs by Julia Lazarus (“Radical Film Network”), Paloma Schnitzer („the other classroom“, Udk”) and students from other film schools.
We aim to form new bonds and alliances, discuss ideas and strategies and challenge our position within the current political landscape in Germany. These issues are directly linked to the massive crackdown on voices expressing solidarity with Palestine and the resulting restrictions on fundamental democratic rights, which are increasingly putting not only political protests but also artistic freedom and the cultural landscape under pressure.
As part of the "Salon für Faultiere", this is the second of three events, where we watch movies, hear inputs, discuss. There will also be some snacks.
