Es ist eines der 19 rumänischen Kulturinstitute, die derzeit auch in Brüssel, Istanbul, Madrid, Prag, Stockholm, Venedig, Peking, Budapest, Lissabon, New York, Rom, Tel Aviv, Wien, Kisinau, London, Paris, Szeged, und Warschau tätig sind. Seit 2003 ist das Rumänische Kulturinstitut Mitgründer der Gemeinschaft der Europäischen Kulturinstitute in Berlin (GEK) und seit 2006 Mitglied des EUNIC Netzwerkes (European National Institutions of Culture).

♻️ Last week, Romanian designer Cezar Blînda (co-founder of LUN Studio) led a hands-on upcycling workshop in Berlin as part of the “Next! Young European Design” program organized by EUNIC Berlin.

💡During the workshop, participants transformed simple wooden boxes into multifunctional wall-mounted organizers - objects designed to hold keys, notes, glasses, or photographs.

From the very beginning, Cezar encouraged participants to see upcycling not simply as transforming one object into another, but as an invitation to explore and express creativity freely. By the end of the workshop, each participant had created a unique and personal piece, shaped by their own ideas and needs - something that reflected the spirit of the workshop perfectly.

🤝 No previous experience was required, and the relaxed atmosphere allowed everyone to feel comfortable working with wood and learning through making.

✨ Romanian designer Cezar Blînda (co-founder of LUN Studio) took part in NEXT! Young European Design in Berlin on 21 May, participating in the lab talk “The Imperfect Future - WOOD: Design between Symbiosis and Standardisation” at Aedes.

🌿 In his presentation, Cezar Blînda reflected on the meaning of objects in an age of overproduction and accelerated consumption, asking: “What does this object mean? What relationship does it create between the person and the moment?”

Approaching wood not simply as a raw material, but as a living presence capable of carrying memory and meaning, he spoke about responsibility in design and the relationship between people, objects, and natural resources.

Drawing from the philosophy of LUN Studio, he presented handmade wooden objects conceived “with a purpose for the soul” - pieces that encourage slowness and connection with the present moment.

🌱 Through projects such as Vaza Drot, Păstaia Virtuților, and Pasărea Pedro, the talk explored how meaning and timelessness can become sustainable alternatives to excess and disposability.

For Constantin Brâncuși, sculpture and music were deeply connected. He once said about the voice of the legendary Romanian singer Maria Tănase: “When I hear you sing, Maria Tănase, I could carve an enchanted bird for each of our songs.” 🎶

You’re invited: On June 3rd, Romanian singer Oana Cătălina Chițu and her band bring this artistic dialogue back to life with contemporary interpretations of Tănase’s music accompanied by Dejan Jovanovic (accordion), Valeriu Cașcaval (cimbalom), and Anton Slavici (violin).

The concert-performance connects Maria Tănase’s musical legacy with contemporary sound art: together with sound artist Mihai Balabaș, live electronic soundscapes emerge, inspired by Brâncuși’s studio and his practice with wood, stone, and metal.

Wir laden euch ein: Am 3. ✨ : KITRA (Nicu Duță) and Alexandra Crasnaru Dragomir- behind our upcoming exhibition “Dialogues of Wonder”.

Romanian artist Kitra (Nicu Duță), based in Berlin for almost a decade, develops a geometric-abstract visual language shaped by urban space, industrial design, and the digital environment. His works explore the tension between order and uncertainty through systems, grids, and visual structures where precision and experimentation coexist.

The exhibition is curated by Alexandra Crăsnaru Dragomir, a Berlin-based curator and cultural manager working across interdisciplinary exhibition formats and international collaborations in the fields of visual arts, film, and media culture.

✨ “Dialogues of Wonder” brings together painting, drawing, photography, and a site-specific intervention, inviting viewers into a space of curiosity, reflection, and visual dialogue.

🎬 Georgiana ist fast 15 und lebt mit ihren sechs Geschwistern in einer Sozialwohnung am Rand von Bacău. Ihre Mutter arbeitet in Turin und kommt erst im Sommer zurück. So wird Georgiana zum Familienoberhaupt und kümmert sich um ihre Geschwister, obwohl sie selbst noch ein Kind ist.

Die Kamera bleibt nah an ihrem Alltag: an Hausarbeit, Schule, Streit und den Anrufen der Mutter aus Turin. Dazwischen zeigt der Film Momente voller Nähe, Zärtlichkeit und kindlicher Freude.

📚 Das Rumänische Kulturinstitut „Titu Maiorescu“ Berlin und das Nationale Buchzentrum organisieren in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Romanistik der Universität Leipzig einen rumänisch-deutschen literarischen Übersetzungsworkshop, der aus drei intensiven Teilen besteht. Ziel ist die Ausbildung und Professionalisierung von Übersetzer*innen rumänischer Literatur im deutschsprachigen Raum.

🎓 Der Workshop richtet sich an Studierende und angehende Übersetzer*innen. Der Workshop findet an der Universität Leipzig statt und gliedert sich in drei Sektionen zu zeitgenössischer Dramatik, Prosa und Lyrik.

Luke, Professor of modern and contemporary art history at the University of Tübingen, exploring how Constantin Brâncuși came to be seen as a key figure in the origins of modern sculpture - and why that idea deserves a closer look. Vernissage soon at RKI’s gallery! ✨

We are opening our new exhibition “Dialogues of Wonder” by artist KITRA (Nicu Duță), curated by Alexandra Crasnaru Dragomir.

The exhibition brings together painting, drawing, photography, and a site-specific intervention, exploring the tension between order and uncertainty through precise geometric systems. Kitră’s practice builds visual structures where logic and instability coexist, turning the grid into both method and reflection.

Across the works, “wonder” becomes a shared space of curiosity and doubt - a dialogue between artist, artwork, and viewer.
