In July 2025 „THE NIGHT OF IDEAS: We are the RIVER“ transformed Floating into a space of reflection, imagination, and dialogue on the rights of Nature.
Together with artists, scientists, lawyers, and thinkers, we explored how rivers, lakes, and landscapes are gradually gaining legal recognition around the world, from the Atrato River in Columbia to the Whanganui River in New Zealand.
Learning from these international examples, we ask within our European context: How can rivers be heard? Which tools, stories, and perspectives help us imagine a new legal and cultural shift?
For two days, the Spree became more than water: it became a voice, a presence, a partner in thought.
We thank all participants, speakers, artists as well as the many living organisms inhabiting the rainwater retention basin of Floating University for contributing to this discussion.
