The UA Ruhr is an alliance between Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen, the three largest universities in Germany’s thriving Ruhr Area. Each of our institutions has a strong tradition of breaking down walls between disciplines. We believe in the benefits of collaboration on all levels of scholarship and research, which is one of the reasons we came

together in this unique university alliance. The Ruhr Area is not only Germany’s largest academic hub, but also an epicenter of innovation that fosters close interaction between academia and the private sector – and our alliance provides students and researchers from around the world with an open gateway to our region. More than 115,000 students, of which 19,000 are international, as well as over 9,000 researchers study and work within the UA Ruhr universities. Together, the three universities have 800 partnerships with universities in over 130 countries and a combined annual budget of close to 1.4 billion euros – which provides our students and researchers with virtually unlimited possibilities for exchange and resources for development. To support our already strong global network of international exchange and collaboration, the UA Ruhr has also created academic liaison offices for North America, Latin America, and Russia. Today, had the pleasure of hosting the „Kleiner Science Slam” at the German Consulate in New York City.💚

The PhD students from TU Dortmund University, Lucia Kuhn and Franka Zierden, took us on a journey into the world of positive psychology. Through an interactive presentation, they inspired participants to reflect on their own strengths and those of others, and to recognize which strengths are truly energizing. In the process, participants became aware of the difference between innate strengths and learned behaviors.
Many thanks to Franka and Lucia for this enlightening contribution and input. And a warm thank you also to our guests!

Experts from politics, business, and academia explored how transatlantic cooperation can adapt to geopolitical shifts, technological competition, and strategic dependencies, while balancing innovation with safety, ethics, and accountability in AI governance.

A wonderful evening of connection and collaboration 🌍✨

We had the pleasure of leading and co-hosting our annual New Year / Spring Reception in New York together with the German House University Liaison Offices. Opening remarks from the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany highlighted the importance of working across institutions and disciplines, and the value of staying connected in a shared space. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversations throughout the evening.

On Saturday, we participated in the European University Fair at the . There, we observed a growing number of young people who have a heightened interest in business and want to pursue careers in this field after graduation. The Ruhr Alliance, which includes , , and , deeply integrates business with academia through joint research, regional industry partnerships, and a strong startup culture. For example, the partners with the business association to connect students with CEOs and offer internships.
