We are still looking for multilingual families to participate in a research project at the University of Bonn! 😊
The project explores the role of English in families of non-native English-speaking parents with different mother tongues. For example, a Norwegian speaking mother and an Italian speaking father, who speak (mostly) English as their couple language, and then their bi/multilingual child/ren (who choose/s to speak any language/s).
Check out our website (https://bit.ly/familingo) for more information.
If you are interested or know someone who might be interested in participating, we would be happy to hear from you: via PM, email, or in the comments below! 🥰

About FamiLingo
The project explores the role of English in families of non-native English-speaking parents with different L1s. For that purpose, data from introspective interviews, language portraits and dinner table conversations are collected. The families live in Europe (to date: Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland).
How do the families communicate? Which roles do the first languages of the parents and the majority languages play in comparison to the English language? Which languages do the children speak, in what way, and which languages do they identify with? These and other questions revolving around the current debates in English as a lingua franca and multilingualism research shall be tackled within this project.
