Don’t hesitate to ask for advice
New research by WiSo Professor Anne Burmeister shows: networking becomes much easier when you realise both sides benefit. Asking for advice is not a burden – it gives others the chance to feel valued and gain new insights.
Result: up to 40% more connections, with consistently high-quality advice.
Especially interesting: the effect is strongest where we tend to hesitate most – when reaching out to unfamiliar people or experienced professionals.

So go ahead and send that message. Your network grows when you take the first step.

It’s a wrap!

International MBA Students participating in our programme Doing Business in Germany: Reimagining Mobility and Energy had the opportunity to explore how the German automotive, transport and energy sector intertwine.

The 12-day programme took students from nine of our worldwide partner universities to different cities in Germany and offered insights and networking opportunities with partners like Ford, Siemens AG, Invers, Bosch and more! The DBi Germany programme provides students with a unique blend of education, networking and cultural studies and we already look forward to next year’s edition, taking place 3-14 May 2027.

A huge thank you to Isabel Schnabel and the team for making such an important contribution to the 125 Years of Management, Economics and Social Sciences in Cologne anniversary celebrations with yesterday’s Selten Salon talk (mustn’t forget to thank Faculty- and cluster members Felix Bierbrauer and Michael Krause for their excellent contributions!)

The evening offered fascinating insights into Europe’s future and an especially thought-provoking perspective on the role the European Central Bank can play in shaping it. Combined with the lively discussion afterwards, it was one of those events where you probably learn more in a single evening than in two years of A-level Economics. 👀📚

So yesterday’s event was another brilliant addition to our anniversary lecture series, which puts us in a position to make a recommendation with a clear conscience: If you’d like to be able join the conversation on equal opportunities and social mobility — quite literally “from the top down” — save the date for 9 June and join WiSo Vice Dean Marita Jacob for the next inspiring session. 🎓✨
