Sadeh (سده ) also transliterated as Sade), is an Iranian festival that dates back to the Achaemenid Empire and roots in Zoroastrianism religion. Sadeh celebrates annually 50 days before Nowruz in 30th of January. Sadeh in Persian means “hundred” and refers to one hundred days and nights remains to the beginning of spring. Sadeh is a mid winter festival that was celebrated with grandeur and magnificence in ancient Persia and it is still celebrated in modern day Iran.It was a festivity to honor fire and to defeat the forces of darkness, frost, and cold. It is very similar to Yalda night that is celebrated on winter solstice.
This celebration was Inscribed in 2023 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO🌍
The element enjoys diverse manifestations in Iran and Tajikistan. It involves singing, dancing and praying around a fire and offering blessings and dry or fresh fruits. The day also marks the traditional start of agricultural work for the new season, with farmers sprinkling fertilizer in their lands and gardeners pruning their trees and bushes.

Das Kölner Studierendenwerk richtet in diesem Sommersemester erneut die Multi-Kulti-Küche aus!

Studierende von sechs internationalen Hochschulgruppen, und den ASten der Universität, der TH Köln und der Deutschen Sporthochschule kochen in sieben Kochgruppen für ihre Kommilitonen internationale Speisen aus ihrer Heimat. Es erwarten euch Speisen aus: Aserbaidschan, Australien, Deutschland, Griechenland, Indonesien, Kolumbien, Moldawien, Nordamerika, Rumänien und der Ukraine

Unterstützt werden die Hobbyköche durch die Profis der UniMensa des Kölner Studierendenwerks. Nach dem Essen gibt es ein kulturelles internationales Rahmenprogramm und im Anschluss findet die Multi-Kulti-Party statt. Zum Essen und Feiern eingeladen sind alle, die Interesse an anderen Kulturen haben.
Der Vorverkauf findet an den InfoPoints I und II des KStW statt.
Im Vorverkauf kostet eine Karte für Studierende 6 €, für sonstige Gäste 8 € Schüler*innen zahlen 4 €. Kinder können bis zum Alter von 6 Jahren umsonst mit rein. Die Abendkasse wird nur bei Restkarten geöffnet, hier beträgt der Preis für Studierende 8 €, für Gäste 10 €.

Das Essen “all you can eat“ ist im Eintrittspreis enthalten. Die Plätze sind begrenzt, deshalb empfehlen wir den Vorverkauf!

Some facts about "HAJI FIROOZ"

There are different theories about the origin of Haji Firooz.

Haji Firouz, who is known as the persian “Santa Claus” of this holiday, has been referred to as the Zoroastrian fire keeper, as his face and hands are painted black to represent soot from the fire.
He wears a red cloak and a red felt hat, sings songs on new year and gives gifts to all the children and people who are celebrating. He plays his loud tambourine and sings traditional songs, bringing joyfulness to the Nowruz celebration.

According to some sources, Haji Firuz is based on a tradition called Mir Nowruzi. Mir Nowruz was a comical figure chosen to rule the municipality for "the last five days of the year" (Panje). The temporary "five-day king" (Šāh e Panj Ruze) would often parade the city with a group of singers and dancers for the Nowruz celebrations

Mehrdad Bahar opined that the figure of Haji Firuz is derived from ceremonies and legends connected to the epic of Prince Siavash, which are in turn derived from those associated with the Mesopotamian deity of agriculture and flocks, Tammuz (Sumerian Dumuzi). Later, he claimed that the blackened face of Haji Firuz symbolizes his returning from the world of the dead, his red clothing is the sign of the blood of Siavash and the coming to life of the sacrificed deity, while his joviality is the jubilation of rebirth, typical of those who bring rejuvenation and blessing along with themselves. He speculates that the name Siyāwaxš might mean 'black man' or 'dark-faced man' and suggests that the term black in the name may be a reference either to the blackening of the faces of the participants in the aforementioned Mesopotamian ceremonies, or to the black masks that they wore for the festivities.
