Last week, we brought the CBI community together for the first “CBI meets Startup”. The goal: connecting our department’s research with the agility of the startup world. 🚀

During a poster session, PhD students and P*s from the CBI chairs presented their research to startups, colleagues, and students alike. 
Our students had the opportunity to challenge ideas and discover how their studies in Biotechnology, Chemical and Biological Engineering, Energy Technology, and Clean Energy Processes can translate into real-world impact. 🧪☀️ ♻️💡

The poster session was followed by inspiring talks and discussions with our guest speakers Steffen Leimbach (Litherm Technologies GmbH), Andreas Reichert (Lumatix Biotech), Gerhard Schöny (DACworx), and Andreas Schuster (Orcan Energy). Many thanks for sharing your insights and entrepreneurial perspectives with our community! 😊👏

Große Freude am LSTM: Prof. Dr. Ramis Örlü (Oslo Metropolitan University) wurde mit dem Friedrich‑Wilhelm‑Bessel‑Forschungspreis ausgezeichnet.🎉 Der Preis ermöglicht ihm in den kommenden zwei Jahren wiederholte Aufenthalte am Lehrstuhl für Strömungsmechanik (LSTM) unter der Gastgeberschaft von Prof. Dr. Philipp Schlatter.
 
Bei den Forschungsaufenthalten stehen experimentelle Untersuchungen zur Turbulenz im Mittelpunkt.
Der Friedrich‑Wilhelm‑Bessel‑Forschungspreis der Alexander von Humboldt‑Stiftung würdigt jährlich international anerkannte ausländische Forschende, die ihr Fach nachhaltig geprägt haben und deren Arbeiten auch künftig wegweisende Impulse erwarten lässt.🌍
 
Wir gratulieren Prof. Dr. Örlü herzlich zu der Auszeichnung und freuen uns sehr, ihn bald am Department CBI begrüßen zu dürfen!👏
 
 
Great news from the Institute of Fluid Mechanics (LSTM): Prof. Ramis Örlü, Oslo Metropolitan University, has been selected as the winner of the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel prize.🎉 The prize will allow Prof. Örlü to visit LSTM during the next two years, hosted by Prof. Dr. Philipp Schlatter. The joint research will focus on turbulence experiments.
 
This prestigious international recognition awarded annually to distinguished scientists recognises outstanding research contributions and enables research collaborations with institutions in Germany.
 
We warmly congratulate Prof. Örlü on this award and look forward to welcoming him to our department soon.👏

Big news: Dr. Lucas Kreiss (Institute of Medical Biotechnology, MBT) has been selected for the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting!👏
An interdisciplinary week with ~75 laureates and 636 young researchers from 88 countries. His work at MBT spans label‑free biophotonics and computational analysis — engineering x biology x medicine. Can’t wait for the insights he’ll bring back.✨😇

The international Master’s Program Advanced Materials and Processes (MAP) marks its 20th anniversary. On February 4, 2026, MAP will host a commemorative lecture, followed by an engaging poster session presented by 3rd‑semester students. The event offers a great opportunity to connect with the MAP community, exchange ideas, and reflect on two decades of academic excellence.✨

🇩🇪 Alle Studierenden müssen sich zweimal im Jahr für das nächste Semester rückmelden, um an der FAU weiterzustudieren. Dies geschieht durch die
Überweisung des Semesterbeitrags.
Das Geld sollte unbedingt innerhalb der
Rückmeldefristen an die Universität überwiesen werden, sonst droht die Exmatrikulation❗️
Der Semesterbeitrag betragt seit dem Wintersemester
2024/25 72 Euro.

🇺🇸 All students must re-register for the next semester twice a year in order to be able to continue studying at FAU. This is done by paying the semester contribution. The contribution must be paid by bank transfer within the deadlines for re-registration at the University, as otherwise you risk being de-registered❗️
The semester contribution is 72 euros.
