Just another online semester: 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 '𝗘𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲' 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝟲:𝟯𝟬𝗽𝗺!

As the MUN world is affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so is student life at the University of Heidelberg. Like all other initiatives, we will have to try to make the best of it, and move online as well.

We will be forming an online delegation within the next ten days, and prepare for participation in online MUN conferences, including Harvard WorldMUN in March. Obviously, we do hope that the 'real' conference in Japan will actually take place in 2022...

Am heutigen Montag stellen sich zehn Initiativen aus dem Bereich Theater und Musik vor. In den kommenden Tagen sind dann Gruppen mit internationalem Bezug (Di), politische und gewerkschaftliche Hochschulgruppen (Mi), die Verfasste Studierendenschaft (Do) sowie Nachhaltigkeitsgruppen (Fr) an der Reihe, bevor es kommende Woche mit weiteren thematischen Schwerpunkten weitergeht.

Hm. Interesting read on what is going on in the UNSC, including absurd elements. What will we see at the end of this? Local governments at popularity peaks, WHO and UN (and EU?) discovered obsolete? Or the exact opposite?

And now, something completely different - well, not entirely:

The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting us all, including the MUN universe. Health care systems are under enormous stress.

Our alumnus Jeremy Schmidt, a student of medicine himself, is involved in a charitable attempt to bring together health care institutions that are in need of personal assistance, and people with expertise in the medical field (medical students, paramedics, laboratory assistants etc.).

They have created Match4Healthcare, an online platform to register and match these people and institutions. Please share, and

Day 1 of Heidelberg National MUN 2020 is over - at least the committee part. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the debate, and the food - and are looking forward to day 2!

Kannst Du Dir vorstellen, bereits als Student Weltpolitik mitzugestalten? Das geht: Tauche ein in die Welt der internationalen Diplomatie und nehme an den Heidelberg National Model United Nations am 11.-12. Januar 2020 teil!

In zwei Komitees simulieren wir die Arbeit der UNO, indem wir uns mit Themen wie Klimawandel, Entwicklungshilfe und Frauenrechten auseinandersetzen. Als Teilnehmer repräsentierst Du dabei ein bestimmtes Land und hast die Aufgabe, dessen Position in den Verhandlungsprozess einzustreuen.

What do you do at Model UN? You debate! At the Heidelberg National Model United Nations General Assembly for example we will discuss the link between climate change and development cooperation:

The Paris Agreement has not just set goals for the reduction of green house gasses but also implemented the NDC Support Facility to assist countries with the implementation of their climate goal. As most countries are now failing to stick to their commitments, the optimistic spirit of new international efforts against climate change has faded away. However, the lack of enforcement of the climate goals sparked a massive public outcry - especially among the young generation.

Is the international effort to combat climate change however already doomed to fail? What steps need to be taken within the UN framework overcome economic disparity around the globe while also reducing carbon emissions?

These are just a few of the questions that we will discuss at the General Assembly of the Heidelberg National Model United Nations on January 11th/12th 2020. Make your voice heard and sign up now to debate global issues from the perspective of a student diplomat!
