Today, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of the servicemembers who fought for freedom on D-Day and remember the lasting impact of their courage.

We are grateful to all who have served—and to the military-connected students, alumni, faculty, and staff who continue that legacy today. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day began after the Civil War as a way to honor fallen service members and has grown into a national day of remembrance for all who gave their lives in service to our country.

Meet Ehsan Jamshidi, Marine veteran, UMGC alumnus, and 2024 UMGC Student Veteran of the Year. His journey from Afghanistan to the United States is shaped by perseverance, sacrifice, and a deep sense of purpose.

From his service in the Marine Corps to facing the urgency of the 2021 Kabul evacuation while his own mother was still there, Ehsan’s story shows what it means to stay focused and rise to the moment when it matters most.
