Beril Serter is a food technologist with many years of experience at the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture, particularly in official controls, HACCP, food law, project work, and continuing education.
She holds several academic degrees, including a master’s degree in food hygiene and technology, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in this field. As part of the Jean Monnet Scholarship, she is conducting research as a visiting doctoral student on the regulation of novel foods in Turkey and the EU.

Paula Krejbich studied ecotrophology (B.Sc.) and international food economics and consumer studies (M.Sc.) in Fulda and Kassel. In 2022, she began her doctorate, initially at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, later at the Chair of Food Law at the University of Bayreuth. She has worked as a lecturer, served on committees, and gained experience in a scientific association. She is particularly interested in food safety mechanisms in the EU. Her doctoral thesis deals with food safety and consumer protection in e-commerce.

POV: your research takes you to the food law capital of the Netherlands

Aleksandra wrapped up her visit to Wageningen last Sunday where she spent two weeks cooperating with the Europe Horizon DETECTIVE project partner-Wageningen University and Research.

Together with Margherita Simonetti she worked on the legal economic analysis of the introduction of New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) to the EU food market and the final report will be ready around summer.

She enjoyed the company of the people of the Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy Group and the deer and she said the dutch lunches definitely lived up to their name but she couldn’t be happier to return to the Kulmbach mensa.

Aleksandra Hubar-Kolodziejczyk earned her Master of Law with honors from the University of Warsaw, specializing in
EU and food law. Before joining the Chair of Food Law in Bayreuth, she worked in the legal department of the European Food Safety Authority and in international law firms specializing in competition and food law.
As a doctoral student in Kulmbach, she is conducting research on food innovation, the future of nutrition and animal welfare, and the connection between law and science. In the Horizon Europe project DETECTIVE, she is working on the regulation of GMOs and new genome techniques.

Dmytro Fedchyshyn is a senior researcher at the Chair of Food Law at the University of Bayreuth and has been a Mercator Fellow since 2024.
He received his doctorate in Kharkiv in 2021, taught civil law in Zaporizhzhya, and led a state-funded research project.
As an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen, he conducts research on agricultural, food, and environmental law. His work focuses on sustainable agriculture, food security, biotechnology, food trade, and the harmonization of Ukrainian law with EU standards.

Alessandro Monaco is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Food Law at the University of Bayreuth. After studying gastronomy in Pollenzo and completing a master’s degree in food safety and food law in Wageningen, he earned his doctorate with DFG funding
on the regulation of food innovations in the EU.
Starting in 2026, he will be conducting research in the CROSSPRO project in Riga on political and regulatory factors that shape the acceptance of alternative proteins.
His work combines law, behavioral economics, and
consumer research.

A true food lover at heart, Alessandro Monaco has pursued his passion across countries, continents and disciplines - from Gastronomic Sciences to Food Law, always with a sharp eye on the sociological, legal and political dimensions of food.

After successfully defending his PhD thesis on the regulation of food innivations, we came together to celebrate the newly qualified Dr. Monaco and his outstanding achievements. 📚🍾

Few have shaped the community within our faculty since its beginning as he has - through research, teaching, tireless involvement in projects and of course his charisma. The fact that so many joined in person or supported him from afar speaks volumes about the impact he's had.

Dear Ale, congratulations and thank you for letting us be part of your inspiring academic journey as well as for lightening up our days, weeks and life!

Ein Meilenstein: Nach Verteidigung ihrer Dissertation zum Thema Lebensmittelverschwendung kamen wir zusammen, um unsere Laura Springer zu feiern. Nach der Publikation ihrer Monographie darf sie sich dann auch selbst bald als Dr. Springer vorstellen!

Liebe Laura, wir wünschen dir alles erdenklich Gute & danken dir, dass wir dich auf deiner bisherigen akademischen Reise begleiten durften! 💚

Milestone reached: After defending her thesis on food waste, we came together to celebrate our Laura Springer. After publishing her monography, she may soon introduce herself as Dr. Springer!

As the old year comes to an end, we would like to wish all of our students, colleagues, partners and friends a very merry, blessed Christmas, happy holidays and all the best for the year to come ✨️🎄

Some days ago we were having our own Christmas celebration, enjoying various home cooked dishes as well as diving into 1920s characters and solving a murder (well, technically none of us came up with the right culprit, but let's just not talk about that) as part of a crime lunch!
