Our research centre is located in Münster, Germany as part of the Münster University English Department. The Centre for Aldous Huxley Studies (CAHS) was approved of and founded as a research centre by the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (University of Münster) in spring 1998 and is part of the Department of English. It functions as a base and vehicle for the activities of the internation
al Aldous Huxley Society (AHS). The main tasks of the Centre for Aldous Huxley Studies are the following:
- a critical edition of the works of Aldous Huxley, based on the collation of the British and American editions of individual works, beginning with Island;
- the foundation and publication of a Huxley annual, in collaboration with Huxley scholars of international acclaim;
- the setting-up of a special library, with a collection of manuscripts, typescripts, editions and works related to Huxley as well as a data base of primary and secondary literature;
- cooperation with Huxley scholars and Huxleyans on Huxley-oriented projects, e. Fietz (University of Tübingen) and Prof. Nugel (University of Münster). The Centre for Aldous Huxley Studies is housed in rooms Nos. 301 (office, library) and 302 (work room) at the Department of English, Johannisstrasse 12-20 (3rd floor), Münster, and is headed by Prof. Dr. Bernfried Nugel in his capacity as member of the English Faculty of the Fachbereich 9 - Philologie (University of Münster). It is open to Huxley experts as well as to a wider public by previous arrangement and provides current information on its activities and new developments in Huxley research and Huxleyana. It also organizes guest lectures, workshops and symposia on subjects related to Aldous Huxley.
