In almost all political debates of the present - but especially those of biopolitics - it can be observed that these are characterized by dissent and conflict, instead of consensus and harmony. Agonal theories of democracy take this aspect as an opportunity to point out new ways of conflict regulation. In her now published dissertation Manon Westphal makes proposals for the design of political institutions and thus for overcoming the institutional deficit of agonal democracy.

To what extent are the significance of autonomy for Bioethics and the admissibility of paternalism also dependent on societal constraints? Our long-standing fellow Erzsébet Rózsa (Debrecen) explored this question in her book "Autonomia és Paternalizmus" using the example of Hungary's broken modernity. The book was published at the beginning of this year and has received a lot of attention, especially among Hungarian doctors, due to its practice-related investigation of the doctor-patient relationship. Professor Rózsa presents her book in today's Jour fixe which is probably the last one of the Centre.

Inwieweit sind die Bedeutung von Autonomie für die Bioethik und die Zulässigkeit von Paternalismus auch von gesellschaftlichen Randbedingungen abhängig? Dieser Frage ging unser langjähriger Fellow Erzsébet Rózsa (Debrecen) in ihrem Buch „Autonomia és Paternalizmus“ am Beispiel der gebrochenen Moderne Ungarns nach. Das Buch ist Anfang dieses Jahres erschienen und hat durch seine praxisbezogene Erkundung des Arzt-Patienten-Verhältnisses insbesondere unter ungarischen Ärzten schon viel Aufmerksamkeit erfahren. Im heutigen und vermutlich letzten Jour fixe des Kollegs stellt Professor Rózsa ihr Buch vor.

Gesundheitsversorgung ist in Deutschland weitgehend solidarisch organisiert, während andere Länder, wie etwa die USA, in diesem Bereich eher auf Eigenverantwortlichkeit setzen. Doch wie verträgt sich dieser Umstand mit einer zunehmend von Wertepluralismus geprägten Gesellschaft? Dr. Daniel Friedrich, assoziierter Mitarbeiter des Kollegs, entwickelt in seinem Buch „Rechtfertigung solidarischer Gesundheitsversorgung“ eine Theorie deliberativer Ressourcensteuerung, die sowohl der Frage des Zugangs zum Gesundheitswesen als auch dessen Zielgrößen Rechnung trägt. The concept of causality is not only of interest in the natural sciences, but also plays a central role in the attribution of responsibility in law and ethics.
