The JGU Scotland HUB invites you to join our workshop TEACHING SCOTLAND in Mainz on Friday, 24 April 2026 from 10.00 – 16.30.
We are delighted to host this year's workshop in honour of the late Lorna Borrowman Smith, a dedicated teacher and member of our partners at the Association of Scottish Literary Studies in Glasgow. As part of her life’s work, she created numerous teaching resources that are part of the Scotland Library here at JGU. These are displayed alongside the endowment of her extensive book collection which serves to strengthen the internationalisation of teacher education.
➡️ During the full-day workshop, short presentations will provide initial ideas for incorporating Scottish topics into English teaching.
🏴 Dr Andrew MacKillop (University of Glasgow) will speak on “Teaching Scottish Literature: A Perspective on British Identity”, and Dr Anette Degott (Teaching Fellow at ZWW) will present on “Teaching Scotland’s Culture: Best Practice”.
💻 In the subsequent work session, we will endeavour to process this content from a methodical and didactic perspective, gathering ideas and inspiration for lesson plans and teaching units.
📚Following the workshop, we invite you to celebrate the Lorna Borrowman Smith Endowment for the JGU Scotland library with an introduction to the collection by her son Dr Stewart Smith.
Sign up for the workshop by Fri, 16 April 2026: https://jgu.to/0bzn
